  1. Yes, I remember having to wear sweaters quite regularly in late September going back to the 90s, haven't done that in at least a decade or more.
  2. It'll be awesome when FakeBook gets regulated to death
  3. Did you see the replies, Don? Looks like FakeBook has been doing this for years!
  4. Yeah, I see they learn from their previous mistakes there. One good thing to come out of all this is that China is closing down all the wet markets that were prevalent there. Wish we would do the same in NY.
  5. It looks like it went into high gear around 2000 (see post above) when our consumerist-oriented society went into high gear also. It also depends on the source of the sugar. I'm pre-diabetic and I have no problem eating bananas or tangerines. Nature has packaged those sugars in such a way as to minimize their side effects- both have a high number of B vitamins, which metabolize the sugar. But if I eat a chocolate bar, I get dizzy. So a pretty big difference between sugar in processed food and healthy natural sources like fruits. The sugar industry didn't help matters when they covered up research in the 70s....funny how these cartels work, the fossil fuel cartel and tobacco cartels did the same thing.
  6. I will match that to a change in our society since 2000. We seem to have become a much more consumer oriented society. An example from an entirely different arena is the diabetes epidemic and obesity becoming much more prevalent since 2000 (a higher consumption of processed fast food and food deserts)- and a concurrent rise in the prices of lifesaving drugs. Everything is connected.
  7. I dont believe either of them is lying. Even though I strenuously disagree with "Blizzard" if you psychoanalyze his posts, you can see that he believes what he is posting. His anger seems to be legit. We all have our own biases and it takes a lot to bring down that wall. It's best to keep personal attacks to a minimum, because that only causes more stubbornness and then both sides dig in, regardless of the available evidence. Attack bad ideas, not the people who espouse them.
  8. In Iceland they are now using artificial means to try to keep the glaciers from melting!
  9. On top of that, we can superimpose the West's horrid history of wildfires- 17 of the top 20 fire seasons have occurred since 2000. The fire season has also grown an average of 75 days longer in the 2 decades since 2000 than it was before.
  10. is the 99 record high for today from 1983 the latest any of the NYC reporting stations (NYC, EWR, JFK, LGA) have recorded 99+ and did any of them record triple digits?
  11. meh if thats the reason then it wont stop us from having another mild winter. I remember a few years in the late 80s and early 90s were like this (cold falls, mild winters).....
  12. I was wondering about the winter implications of this sudden switch
  13. well apparently Brian disagrees lol.
  14. skiier gets it both from the left and the right, I feel bad for him (sometimes). but seriously, he was actually not being mean to you, if you want to see mean you should see him on the political forums lol
  15. the rapid increase in rainfall and dewpoints is very apparent here on the east coast too. and it has had detrimental effects on my health in a very noticeable way (much longer allergy season, more biting pests, etc.)
  16. Yes, all of the above...it's the only way to eradicate food deserts. I avoid fast food and processed food like the plague it is and causes.
  17. You know your history well! I was recently watching a series on PBS that talked about the undue influence of both the British and Dutch East India Companies, the very first multinational corporations. Yet another excuse for colonialism. Colonialism still happens today just differently.
  18. thats why my main arguments are based on air pollution and health, it is much easier to prove and generally agreed upon. If any disagreed they stopped doing so when the pandemic hit and air quality greatly improved. The climate connection has to be based on many decades of data and while many see it, it is harder to prove.
  19. the old record wasn't that long ago- 2018! I saw a contour map that brought the 2" line through about Lynbrook/Oceanside/East Rockaway- would you say that's accurate? The heaviest seemed to be around Pt Look Out and the western part of Jones Beach.
  20. renewable energy is well on its way to being cheaper and more cost effective. Also, I dont know about you, but I'd rather not live in a country like India where the smog from dirty fuel powered cars is so bad that you need to wear an oxygen mask, and that was well before the pandemic hit. People were suffering from breathing problems and headaches and even burning eyes. It took the pandemic to hit to make air quality better. Also the high asthma rates in urban areas have been clearly linked to higher pollution levels and lower air quality because of vehicles. That's why Amazon and Uber are now switching to electric vehicles and why the MTA has switched to hybrid buses. what you said about renewable energy being much more expensive may have been true maybe 20 years ago but is no longer the case and will be much cheaper than fossil fuels by 2030. which is another reason many large corporations are making the switch. it's a win/win for them and for us.
  21. life expectancy is being shortened because of dirty fossil fuels and air pollution, they are worse for health than tobacco smoking
  22. it's good that the fossil fuel cartel is already being sued by 20 states to allocate funds to combat climate induced sea level rise and forest fires.....hopefully the outcome will be as good as it was when we sued the opioid drug cartel.
