1989 and 1998 had that in common. Labor Day 1998 produced an F2 about 2 miles from here in Lynbrook.

November 1989 was my very first experience with tornado watches and what looked like funnel clouds in the area. The winds were unbelievable in that event.

Yeah I dont think I remember any EF3 or higher tornadoes in the area before this summer.

You're right....in the old days they'd keep the roof open to equalize the pressure differences.

Back in the old days people used to open up their windows and doors when tornadoes came, thinking they could equalize the pressure differences and prevent devastating damage.....

Historically speaking and regarding the severe weather aspect of this would you rank this higher than November 1989 and Labor Day 1998? Those are the only two I could compare the level of tornadic activity we are seeing compared to this event.

No but I thought it was comical that ABC returned to "regular programming" they should be covering this all night

On that trajectory it's headed towards Staten island and Manhattan. Lee Goldberg just said "We are in the middle of a historic unprecedented weather event".....2 minutes later he said "Now back to regular programming." LOL

Rain is quickly expanding eastward now and it's getting windy. There is also talk of expanding the Tornado Watch north and east to include NYC and Long Island, we could all be in a 10% risk of tornadoes tonight!

The wind is picking up too. I saw that there's an isolated risk of tornadoes tonight for the entire area.

Yes and it will be long over by the time we wake up tomorrow morning and the sun will be out

Lee Goldberg just told people to shelter in place and don't go anywhere tonight. They should shut down all roads and highways to make sure everyone stays home and we don't need to have any water rescues like we did last time. No one should be allowed outside tonight period.
