  1. The warming up north is pretty alarming, a place like Burlington, VT has warmed over 5 degrees, almost 6 degrees over the past few decades.
  2. Looks like there will be nothing to stop January setting a new record for dryness.
  3. but isn't this part of the new climate pattern with warmer temperatures further north (because of the warming arctic, the farther north you go the faster the warming is?)
  4. wow, they had a drier one than this? which year?
  5. No I think they said there was very little covid and its mostly rsv, the flu and cold this year. It's understandable, viral spread is much more efficient in cold and dry weather (viruses remain in the air longer) -- the exact opposite of bacterial spread-- which is more efficient in warm and humid weather.
  6. the best possible outcome is completely destroying society and starting from scratch
  7. it doesn't matter, he's not the problem, hypocrisy is the problem. we need to completely remove lobbyists from the equation. on a different note I saw that Drumpf hired a seed oil ultraprocessed food lobbyist into the administration. Talk about hypocrisy. I hope RFK throws a fit
  8. those stupid climate agreements will never have an impact until we do what we did to Big Tobacco, which is ban fossil fuel lobbyists from attending these meetings. Dirty fuel lobbyists outnumber everyone else 10:1 so it's like letting the fox into the henhouse.
  9. Americans have a far lower IQ than people in those countries. Have you seen the intelligence of foreign students compared to Americans? I mean.... it's not even close.
  10. there is no pause on offshore wind, that happens at the state level. Texas, a deep red state is the biggest producer of both wind and solar power and NY and NJ have both built huge offshore wind farms that aren't going anywhere.
  11. Whats being ignored is how expensive fossil fuels are, they are definitely not worth it (and that ignores the obvious negative health impact they have.) I switched to electric years ago and never looked back and anyone with an iota of intelligence would do the same.
  12. we're definitely in a different climate regime now when drier than normal is the new background.... two historically dry months within a few months of each other (October-- driest month on record and many with 0 precip and now the driest January on record-- any rainy pattern will likely be shortlived.)
  13. Don is JFK having their driest January on record too? First October (driest month on record and many had 0 precip that month) and now the driest January on record.
  14. cold dry air also aids in the transmission of viruses and it's not easy on the lungs regardless.
  15. norovirus sounds worse than covid lol
  16. Thanks, does it have yearly totals for snowfall, I'd like to see which were the snowiest years back then.
  17. I try to get it from deep sea fish (which is also good for omega 3's and a number of other nutrients that work well with Vitamin D like Calcium, Magnesium and Zinc.) When taken in supplement form, I notice it also comes with these other nutrients. I like Magnesium particularly because it helps me to sleep (much better than taking some sleeping pill, those have some rather strange side effects.)
  18. Yes, especially important in the winter with low sunlight levels. My sister's doctor prescribed her Vitamin D to boost her immune system which was impacted by taking prednisone to combat lupus.
  19. Don does this also include seasonal snowfall totals going all the way back to the 1780s?
  20. Hospitals did a patient survey around the NYC area during the pandemic and the result was that obesity, diabetes and asthma were the most important indicators of who suffered a bad outcome from covid. So the most important indicators are diet, sleep and level of air pollution.
  21. No it's not ignored there are studies that come out regularly about how important diet is as well as getting a minimum of 6 hours of sleep. Getting less than 6 hours of sleep lowers your lifespan by multiple years. Eating a healthy diet without ultraprocessed food is important, doctors' advice is not to eat something if it has more than 5 ingredients in it.
  22. That must've been the last time all three winter months were colder than normal, I can't remember any others since our great wall to wall winters (1995-96 and 2002-03).
  23. I find it really curious that we got below zero in February 2016, during a much warmer climate regime (a super el nino no less), while we could not do it in January 2004, which was a much colder climate regime, and two nights in a row we stopped at +1.
  24. The famous Valentines Day 2016 arctic outbreak was the last time NYC went below zero and the only time in February in my lifetime.
