I lived in northern Nassau for the 1/27/2011 storm. Stayed up all night as we got crushed. I think we got 18” where I was.

Look at the maps you posted. The surface cold was also modified WEST of the lakes. Are you saying the wind blew northeast across the lakes and warmed up the Dakotas?

People are overthinking this. The core of PV lobe went to our west. The Great Lakes are not modifying -30C 850s. Sure the immediate coast of the lakes would be warmer but not 700 miles east

Unfortunately that’s how the meteorological community has decided to classify “normal”. In truth, we don’t really know what “normal” is because we’ve only been keeping records for 150 years during a time when our planet has undergone immense changes, from carbonization to urbanization.

21 at home now, was 42 today but yard still has full snow cover. Beautiful day for skiing, kids first time on skis and they did well until my 7 year old crashed into the bunny hill line. All good!

9 this morning at home on the island. Warmer in Boston where I am for the weekend. They have a bit more snow than we do, maybe another 2 inches or so on the ground compared to Long Island

Not at all. We all have snow on the ground as well. People sick of cold and dry. It’s a normal sentiment.

I have both vaxes and take every vax that I can. I haven’t been sick in 3 years. Not scientifically proven but I am pretty sure it’s because I’m vaccinated. my wife and kids also haven’t been sick in 3 years, other than minor sniffles. Just a counter point to your counter point
