  1. Light non-accumulating snow all morning. 36*. scenic
  2. Was in western suffolk for that storm and got 16", was incredible with the CCB sliding west to just about the N/S border.
  3. 1.70" of rain today...lots of flooding around town
  4. You would think that by now residents in the area would follow the coastal flood forecasts and move their cars to higher ground
  5. Another factor was how cold it was the night before, 20s area wide. So the ground was cold and the snow stuck right away everywhere, rare for a mid-day snowstorm. Really just a perfect storm to create mayhem. And yea, we can never laugh at a southern city again... Ive also never seen so many cars get stuck in 3-4" of snow (on the roads), most cars should be able to handle that amount just fine.
  6. Trees and branches down all over the place, no bueno. Wild night, but yea, i did not enjoy the commute last night, too much
  7. The HRRR showed very snowy solutions all morning. SREFS were very bullish. I busted BIG TIME on this one. Embarrassing, since i told people we werent getting anything.
  8. We also share blame in this. NAM, EURO, SREFS, HRRR were all showing heavy snow for the area, and for some reason, we all threw them out, even seasoned mets. I remember seeing calls for 5-6" out here, and laughing. The NAM nailed this 24 hours before snow started, and we disregarded it to our peril.
  9. That's a different story then. At the least, there should have been early dismissals from school, so the kids werent on the road during the height of rush hour. That falls on local school officials. The real issue is that everyone hit the road at the same time. The downed trees blocking roads didnt help...something you dont usually see
  10. When the forecast calls for literally all rain out here, the officials are supposed to have plows on the road? They actually did a great job, as at 2 pm all the way out in suffolk they were salting and sanding. 2" an hour rates at the height of rush hour were the problem. ' Again, a forecast calling for all rain, supposed to have an army of plows on the road. Come on.
  11. When there is 3" of snow on the ground outside of Upton (they got 4.6") and the forecast is still less than an inch, you can get bashed. All needed to do was walk outside FFS. Thats inexcusable.
  12. at 2pm the LIE was being sanded and salted, there was bare pavement. When the wall of snow hit, the sand and salt didnt matter at all. And there were plenty of plows out, just snowed too hard and traffic was too bad.
  13. Dude, while it was dumping snow, with 2" on the ground, NWS still didnt have even an advisory out here, just a SPS, are you kidding me??? LIE had 2-3" on it, that never happens. Yet, no advisory until its almost over. When the WWA went up the city and Nassau, but not suffolk, that was inexcusable.
  14. Yea, blame it on the governor that an unexpected snowstorm hit during rush hour with 2" an hour rates, right as everyone hit the roads. I guess the elected officials should have made their own forecasts, independent of literally everyone else, somehow knew that the storm would be much worse than expected, and deployed the DOT well ahead of time. Pretty logical.
  15. Yea and when the heaviest snow comes at 4 pm, harder for the plows to get their job done, just piles up.
  16. I saw salt and sand being put on the LiE at 2 pm, by 5 pm it was snowpacked. Nothing you can do
  17. Him and literally everyone else...including all of the nws, tv Mets, etc etc
  18. Drove from riverhead to Commack and the LIE had 3-4” of snow on it in spots. Many spin outs, cars in the woods. I was sliding in my jeep
  19. Suffolk got 4-6”, no WWA, nada. Inexcusable in 2018
  20. 4.5” here on top of the bbq, forecast was zero. Roads a mess. Lol
  21. So you are south of Jericho then? Just east of the mall? I grew up about a mile due south of the mall, good snow spot.
