  1. I stupidly thought when we were down to 29 by 9pm that we had an outside shot at starting as freezing rain or snow in Arlington. Well, I've all but thrown in the towel and can't wait for a nice, cold rain
  2. Snow flurries in Arlington. I guess dreams do come true!
  3. At least we are not talking about a Harrisburg Hauler this round.
  4. NWS Raleigh and NC State MEAS have done a good job with the catalogue of events affecting NC. Might find more there? Here is the link to the storm you referenced: https://projects.ncsu.edu/atmos_collaboration/nwsfo/storage/cases/20000125/ Full site: https://www.weather.gov/rah/events
  5. Lol, I lost track of time with dinner and kids bedtime routine. Check the 18z GFS, come straight here and am not disappointed by the conversation. Cheers everyone!
  6. FWIW, just drove from Arlington to Woodbridge (IKEA, because again, I hate myself). Flakes mixing in around beltway when I left at 8:45, then all rain from Braddock Rd south. On the way back, no flakes until I-66 (9:45ish), so it does not look like the snow line was really dropping south quickly at all.
  7. 40 and .22 inches of rain this far. Bet all these Arlington parents are glad the school jumped the gun on canceling school last night!
  8. Agreed. My CoCoRaHS total was 1.22 total. Not sure what the deal with the automated gauge was...
  9. Automated rain gauge says 1.62 inches so far, snow/ice melt. Winds have thankfully died. Power flickered twice, but seems to be holding on.
  10. Wind driven liquid at 31.3, with 2.5 inches on the ground. AMAZING
  11. This snow is the perfect type for my stupid battery powered snow blower. Didn't take too long to clear. Could hear the pinging of sleet as I was clearing the sidewalks. Snow removal.mp4
  12. An official (enough for me) 2" in western Arlington. Still coming down hard, but figured I'd get a measurement before the changeover occurs.
  13. We started store and 1:30. Temps have dropped and dewpoint has risen nicely!
  14. Already sticking to the roads and it is barely coming down. This is gonna get interesting quick!
  15. We are slowly rising up to near 20, but dewpoint is not decoupling, so that's good!
  16. If that happened today, it would just be a lawsuit waiting to happen. Cool history though!
  17. We bottomed out at 11.7. Station is elevated 2-3 meters off ground, 20 feet away from the house, so I it's legit!
  18. 13.8 / 7 west Arlington Dewpoint up a degree in the last hour.
  19. Anecdotal analysis... 15z backyard model run: Squirrels are out in force this morning, digging all over the place, despite it being 25 degrees. Much more active than over the past week. Perhaps they know something...
  20. Some of these criteria vary from region to region, but here is what LWX has on their site. Looks like .25 inches of ice. https://www.weather.gov/lwx/WarningsDefined#:~:text=A Winter Storm Warning is,weather is occurring or imminent.&text=2) Enough ice accumulation to cause damage to trees or powerlines.,-AND%2FOR&text=AND%2FOR-,3) a life threatening or damaging combination of snow and,or ice accumulation with wind.
  21. I always find it odd that people live and die based on where contours are closed and letters are drawn, especially if run to run they move +/- 25 miles.
  22. I balked on buying a generator after 2 big storms knocked out power here in Arlington last summer. Lights flickered during the snow last week. I think we will be getting said generator as soon as we can secure one!
