Back to that Ski Patroller at Okemo... she’s posted some great stuff on FB this morning.

If her time stamps are correct (no reason not to believe it), they were getting 8” per hour rates.

Actually, they were getting 6” SNOW DEPTH increase in 45 minutes... at those snow depths, there has to be settling.  I wonder if this was measured on a cleared area if it was actually 8” in 45 min or even more?

I mean this is some of the highest documented rates I’ve seen.  But to have snow depth increase 6” in 45 minutes is a 8” per hour rate.

I wonder if they had rates of 10”/hour on a cleared surface?

3 inches in 13 minutes is almost 14 an hour. I bet you’re right they would’ve Had 10 if they measured the hour of peak intensity on a board

Valentines ‘07 had more than 4 feet up in vt.  I want to say there were 5-6’ in spots.  I was up there afterwards and it was bat shit crazy.  So much snow.

Yup I knew Vermont and Adk in New York absolutely crushed with 3-5 feet but I don’t think it made it over quite the same to NH and Maine like this has.

I’m melting what was in the Stratus but there’s no way to know it’s true accuracy. Maybe later if I feel ambitious I’ll do a core sample too.

Cool I’d be surprised if it ended up much better than 10-12 to 1. Snow growth was mediocre for awhile. The weenie band up north probably had 20+ to 1 ratios. NH, VT, and NY all with 40+ reports. I can’t remember a storm like that. March 2017 didn’t and I don’t think valentines 2007 did either. Relatively short duration storm as well. That could’ve been one of the all time great snow bands in a noreaster.

Drifting is actually pretty minimal around here. I drove around for a while and while it was clearly a windy storm based on the lack of snow on roofs and in trees, there are really no big drifts to report.

Agreed. Any ideas what the liquid equivalent was? Started off real fluffy but very dense in the middle and a bit lighter on top with this mornings snow.

Agree that more goodies are on the way, but would caution that those impressive looking echoes are being enhanced quite a bit by sleet/melting and will weaken as they push north. Probably won't reach the snowfall intensities that many of us saw a few hours ago.

Can’t complain really enjoying the event so far. Ski areas are getting crushed right now. Epic start to the season for them. I tried buying tickets today for Friday and hunter/belleayre were sold out already. Ended up settling for Jiminy peak, looks like they’re gonna do ok lol.

That last band, albeit brief, was phenomenal. 1" in under 10 minutes. Shame it had to blow right through so quickly.

3.9"... a little breezy at times but not enough to affect reliable measuring.

Wow a nice 6-7 inch an hour burst. If it snows another 12+ hours here I don’t see how I don’t blow well past a foot If things work out

  7. Wow incredible here. Very heavy snow and great growth. I just measured an average of 6.5 inches Already. Very light fluffy powder. Similar to the lake effect powder I saw in South bend Indiana in college. I don’t know what the ratios are but I would guess they are significantly above 10-1 as of now.

There's some discussion on Twitter about why it prints out sleet colors despite totally frozen forecast soundings. Some good info/speculation in the replies here:
