The first shot is the Roan Mountain area and the other 3 are from Grandfather Mountain on 10/3:

Grandfather had some patches of color above the parkway and roan mountain had the lower end of moderate color higher up. Definitely still has a ways to go to get real picture worthy. I will be making a few more trips as I can

It doesn't have to be peak to be beautiful as this pic shows. Sometimes I like the patchwork even better depending on the scene. Either way I am sure I will be making a second trip after tomorrow as well.

We had one downpour on this side of Raleigh yesterday and that was it. The models were backing off earlier this week but yeah another bust.

Yes indeed. My altitude was 100-200ft AGL in these.

There were a few mini supercells in southern Wake yesterday and of course one prompted a tornado warning. I got a few aerials as these rotated through:

Slight is gone for NC. As far as a derecho, it would not only have to be a long track swath of damaging winds but also numerous gusts of 75+

Happy third anniversary of the Pi Day storm

Based on the GFS and Euro runs early this morning, the March 4th system would be more cutter like leaving us warm and facing more a severe weather threat than any kind of wintry precip. After that the pattern goes to crap once again. Prior to this, there are a few weak waves that die as they cross the NC mountains during the brief cold shot. The mountains may pick up a couple of light snow events with those disturbances.

Looks like we will end with about 2 inches on the colder surfaces in Raleigh. Pics tomorrow. I love that I was wrong in my prediction.
