It's an Albany expression.
Makes sense. I'm from Utica and I've never heard anyone say that.

Looks like another advisory level event inbound.

I hope your kid is out of school for the entirety of a week and you’re stuck playing outside every day while a cold, hostile wind blows drifts into your driveway and you can’t escape for days. I hope there are abandoned cars in your neighborhood and the main thoroughfare look like a third world country with no snowplows.

A nice 1-3/2-4 Friday night would be nice. Yeah, we would like more and it will probably melt quickly Saturday afternoon... but any snow is good to see. Just cover everything.
Weekend snow is the best. No stress.

LWX map seems reasonable.

Would be happier if we could get slightly colder temps. Cities float around 32/33. Northern/western areas 29/30.
If we can keep moistening up that would help.
Let's see if we can add 0.25" QPF regionwide and drop temps by 2 to 4 degrees.

GFS is pretty nice (in context!!). Not a big one but 2-4 for most of us with 4-6 northern tier
That's like a classic 90s snowstorm.

We will get a 10 inch storm in March that no one will remember because it'll be 75 degrees the next day lol
And 75 degrees the day before!

Plenty of time to take this down to nothing then build it back to a warning level event.
Rebuild it like a classic car baby.

8 years running
We'll get a good storm again. We can sometimes score real well the year after an El Nino.

So PD 3 postponed again?
I don't see us getting a major, regionwide event this year.

I'll take the Euro and/or GFS please. Weekend snow is always great.

Well at least it's going to be south some lol... 12z gfs at 84 has the SLP in KY... 06z at 90 was in NW Indiana
That's a solid pass.

It’s not that far out, should we start a thread?
I'd wait until tomorrow. IMO.

Definitely “anomalous” by our standards to see 3 south trend storms in one winter. But the borderline stuff has been far too frequent. The deep winter week was pretty consistent for most on both storms. I’m up to 20.25” for the season which isn’t THAT bad. 2 more mod events I’d break climo
Agreed on the temperatures. No doubt we are warming. If this event started maybe 2 to 3 degrees colder regionwide, this would have been a mess. Frederick, Baltimore, and Harford counties were running trees and transformer calls earlier. It doesn't take much with wet snow.

A little bit of slush on cars and nothing else. Today was supposed to be a long shot east of the mountains anyway.
60 hours ago we weren't slated to get anything. I will admit that it's been interesting to see us "close well" with events this winter.

JB says GFS too far North for Saturday. He likes the direct hit for DMV, I think based on the AI model. Anybody know where to get that?
JB says a lot of things.

Was 2014 when Reisterstown had almost 24”?
I was living in York County, PA from 2014-2016 and commuting to Gaithersburg. That storm had an incredible gradient. Takoma Park only recorded 7" of snow, but Damascus up through Baltimore had almost 22" of snow. Big problems on I-83 and I-270.

That was the hefty WAA crusher right? Didn’t we have the other in 2018 maybe where places NW had a 2 part storm, big totals in Reisterstown?
I don't remember anything in 2018. The 2014 event was incredible because it just was a heavy, wet snow that accumulated almost instantly. I think even DC recorded something like 4" of snow in 2 hours.

Today is the 6 year anniversary of the epic Valentine's Day 2014 event. Broke the 1 day snow record at Dulles IIRC, something like M13.3".

I think snow growth was actually decent and that’s how I stacked up so quickly. Temps dropped to 31.5 during snow and 850 obs were well below 0, so after the initial 30 mins of meteors, flakes were a bit more efficient.
Everyone likes to dump on the HRRR, but it was insistent on several hours of maximizing lift in the DGZ and it's been largely correct on surface temps. It was just 20 to 30 miles too far south with the big band.
