Hell first week of last November I was still swatting the occasional mosquito while working outside. Got pretty warm
Yes, last November had a few nice warm days. MKE set a record high of 77 on 11/10 and a record warm min of 60 same day. It was the latest calendar day in the season EVER that MKE remained above 60 during all reporting hours. Another record.
2020 had 3 record highs in November and 1 record warm minimum (63) which is the warmest record minimum for the month of November.

Looking great late month. No cold air to be found this side of globe.

As was the case all year, only scraps of the heat made it to SE MI.
DTW's warmest temp for this "summers last gasp" was 83F on Oct 3rd. To put that into perspective, while some places west/north set all-time October warm temps or close to it, Detroit has seen a warmer October temp (84F+) a total of 61 times, and then another 26 times matched this 83F.
Time to take the heat repellant off the magnet and reattach the snow magnet
Sniffing out a big warmup later in the month. Probably gonna roast for a bit in November too like 2020.

Well tonight the coconut palm, spindle palm, foxtail palm and flamethrower palm get to be wheeled back into the greenhouse for the winter. Was a good run for tropical palms as I never expect them to be outdoors much longer than September 10-15.

Another record broken.

Not sure if either of these are verified, but it was allegedly as high as 94F in parts of the Upper Peninsula yesterday. I did some research and I believe 94F would tie the Michigan statewide record for the month of October.
A high of 94F was observed on October 1, 1897, at Mottville; at St. Joseph on October 4 & 5, 1922; at Canton on October 7, 2007; and at Algonac WWTP on October 8, 2007.
Love seeing records like this.

40 and damp all winter. Bring it
MKE gets into warm sectors in winter. I don’t think MSP does much. -

Minneapolis has done quite well in the heat department for the end of summer and early autumn.
August
A significant heat wave in late August brought numerous hourly monthly heat index records. Hourly data only going back to 1945 - all from MSP.
It was only the 4th year to have multiple days at or above 98F in the month of August:
The low of 79F on August 23rd was the 6th highest on record, missing the monthly record of 80F (which has been set 5 times) by 1F.
The mean temperature of 88.5F on the 23rd was the 4th highest ever observed on any day in the month of August (chart below lists third, but there were two instances of 89.0F in 1947). The only higher are 89.5F, on 8/6/2001, and 89.0F, on August 4, 1947 & August 5, 1947.
September
September 2023 was one of only 6 years to have 2 days at or above 97F, in the threaded record. It was the first time that has occurred since 1939.
It was also one of only 6 years to reach or exceed 98F in the month of September, and the first time that value has been reached since 1976.
The daily mean of 86.0F on the 3rd and the 4th tied for 3rd highest daily mean ever observed in the month of September in the threaded record (chart below lists third, but there were two instances with a warmer daily mean in 1931).
The low of 75F on September 3rd tied for 4th highest observed, and tied 2002 & 2015 as the highest since 1953. The only higher minima were 77F on September 5, 1912 & 76F on September 2, 1953 & September 9, 1931.
Looking at hourly temperature readings at MSP back to 1945, 16 hours set or tied the highest observed in the month of September.
October
The high of 92F on the 1st is the highest maximum temperature ever observed in the month of October. It was also only the third occasion where the temperature has reached 90F in the month of October.
The low of 69F on the 1st tied for 4th highest ever observed in the month of October, behind October 8, 2011 (71F), October 6, 2007 (70F), and October 3, 2005 (72F).
The mean temperature of 80.5F on the 1st broke the monthly record by 2F:
9 of 24 hourly temperature records for the month of October (since 1945) were set yesterday:
Great write up as usual. -
It's 75F here on an October midnight. I've never seen that before. 75F at midnight in the summer is even rare.
Climate is warming. Faster than we think.- 1

MKE probably would have tagged 90 today for warmest October day ever if lake breeze didn’t kick in. Oh well. Registered 85 on my PWS so definitely top shelf October day. Definitely still palm tree weather.

2007 was hot. 07-08 is a top 5 winter for pretty much everyone in this subforum beside Ohio and they had one of their best storms ever. So no.
Sept 2023 will set record for 53 as the coldest it got all month in MKE. Every other September has had a colder night than that. 2019 was #2 and 2021 was #3 on that list as well. Which is clearly forming a pattern of rapid warming.- 2

With only a couple days left in the month, it appears almost certain that many areas in the Midwestern United States will see one of the warmest absolute minimum temperatures ever recorded in the month of September in 2023. The lack of any early season cold is a blessing farmers and sensitive plants (including hardy palm trees).
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Chicago, Illinois
Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Des Moines, Iowa
Grand Forks, North Dakota
Marquette, Michigan
And we will begin October with one of the warmest on records as well. If people aren't having a "lightbulb" moment about what's going on, I don't know how to help them.

This is like mostly a swag but I’m kind of prepared for a low snow winter, probably a few soul crushing (for a winter lover) cool / cold rainers, and the chance of a handful of heavy wet marginal thermals thundersnow featuring big dogs with a scary close rain/snow line when we tap some probably fleeting cold. At my and your latitude any sustained snow cover probably not gonna happen as we’ll probably see a ridiculous warmup or three or four / bike riding weather. Probably a bone dry 30-45 day stretch from Christmas to mid Feb. I’ve set my expectations, anything worse than that though and I’ll probably need to find a therapist.
Probably more rain for me than you with bathwater temps on Lake Michigan to my east.

Looking like we could see a dip or two of lows in the 30s the holiday weekend but also looks like maybe just for 3-5 days and then back to average/above average. Way longer term I was kind of getting worried the climate train wreck would manifest in Siberia torching or something this fall. Not the greatest start but the Siberian snowpack did start building about two weeks ago so a total train wreck northern hemisphere year without a winter disaster scenario looks to be off the table.
This El Nino is going to split the jet stream keeping the polar jet north of Lake Superior nearly all of winter. What's going on in Siberia and northern Canada isn't going to be much relevant because of that.

mke never had 90s in october.

Interesting pattern. Unless the Canadian wildfires are under control by then, dense smoke looks possible as well.
I’d ride the torch until the horse gets cancer. -
Super torch coming. Maybe warmest start to October ever for some?

It's not a different view point. You have no point you just say warm without any single bit of discussion. We have AI that can do a better more interesting job than you. And you have been banned before because of your tedious garbage.
Plenty of support showing warm into distant future. Look at CFS, CPC, NAEFS, OP Models, Ensembles, etc.

And then winter crapped the bed for the majority of the season. I had pure green grass mid January.
