  1. I neglected to mention in my post, and I was thinking about it - the irony is that flying is indeed much safer now than it was when I loved to fly. Youth, or being a young adult I think allowed me to have a more carefree attitude back then. I am probably an anomaly. I am a registered R, consider myself to be at the very least moderately conservative, but my vote does not always reflect that. I feel that the person in the highest office should live to a very high standard. At least that's what's important to me. And he falls woefully short of that. I was told for months to "vote policy" but I'm sorry, the highest ranking official in the country had better damn well be a good person.
  2. Honestly, yes. It's updated weekly. And last year at this time I was not under D2.
  3. Clean sweep potential at the de facto site. Us Lanco folk had an AN December. (I honestly have no idea where my house fell in line with respect to normal)
  4. A nice moderate snowstorm followed by snow on the ground for over a week helped mask how dry January has been. Even though we've enjoyed a wintry month, under the band aid, the dry weather pattern has very much lived on. We're fortunate that we capitalized on the few legit snow chances we've had.
  5. Ironically, 2 days ago I was reading a random story about high winds blowing a truck over on it's side on the Girard Point Bridge in Philadelphia, the bridge that I take directly to the stadium complex. Apparently, the truck driver and his dog were trapped precariously close to plunging into the river when a guy jumped out of his car, climbed on top of the side of the truck and was able to pull out both the driver and his pet. I think this happened just a few years ago? There are still some heroic people around today. Edit: I just found the story! https://www.hand2shouldercenter.com/helping-hands-dr-adam-strohl-and-wysem-irby-rescue-driver-on-girard-point-bridge/
  6. During a snowstorm, our family was eating dinner together as it happened. I remember it vividly.
  7. Almost an hour since the last post in the MA thread. On January 30th, that's concerning.
  8. His exact quote to defend his stance was "because I have common sense, that's why." As a conservative, it's nothing short of an embarrassment.
  9. 39 and pretty nice at noon. Elliott says .50" north to 1" south of rainfall tomorrow. WPC concurs:
  10. I'm at 10.7" for the winter. Some in here are doing significantly better. This was not supposed to be a good winter in terms of snowfall. If I was offered 10" (of snow) back in November I probably would have taken it and run. Yes, the cold definitely has been more of an impact than snow but it hasn't been as bad as it could have been.
  11. When we're going up against both Elliott and Chuck, we're screwed! LOL Both have said no way to next week. Of course, that doesn't mean they won't be wrong...
  12. It sounds like they were all pretty young, I think? Just horrific.
  13. I'll be completely transparent here - I'm about at the point that I'm almost afraid to fly anymore. When I was younger I spent a lot of time flying solo all across the country, mostly chasing sporting events. LA, Chicago, Denver, Atlanta, Orlando, San Fran...when I was in my late teens into my early 20s I took so many trips. Flying was easy...no TSA, very few restrictions, etc. Of course, 9/11 changed all of that. Understandably so. But flying today to me is a hassle. Long lines, angry people, delayed flights (and missed connections) have worn me down. I now look for reasons to travel by rail or car. This year, our family is going to Disney in August. Most are flying, I'm taking the Auto Train out of Lorton VA. Doing so actually feels like a part of my vacation. On top of that, as I get older I'm starting to become more and more fearful of things out of my control. Flying is at the top of that list. Last time I flew was coming home from Dallas almost 2 years ago. Flew into MDT, the winds that night were gusting to 50 ( @canderson) and our plane was bouncing and buckling all over the place on approach. Then we had to circle and try again. The entire time I'm a mess. 35-40 years ago I likely would have thought it was a cool experience. Today...notsomuch. I can't begin to describe the helpless, sick feeling I had last night (and still do) thinking about that incident and what those poor souls must have...I can't even finish.
  14. People will always need something to talk about. And almost always they're looking for an issue.
  15. 52.2 here at noon. Winds slowly increasing. Good thing we're not expecting squalls down here because with temps in the 50s...
  16. Yeah, and I wasn't clear with my post. What I mostly hear being discussed is how the government is infiltrating our lives in different ways and not so much directly attributed to the climate. I uh...don't believe that the government maneuvered a 'cane in any way.
  17. Just going solely as shown here, wouldn't our winds be screaming out of the south/southeast?
  18. I can't state enough how badly I want the Eagles to win. I'm so sick of KC. I hope the Eagles beat up on them to the point that the refs can't influence the game.
  19. One of the biggest snow squall warnings I've ever seen:
  20. This is a hot topic in my office at work. There are a group of people who are 100% convinced that this is happening. Again to my point from earlier...I don't add much to the conversation but more and more people are on board with this thought.
  21. I know that there are some who refuse to come here but I sensed it was the right decision to break off and create a separate thread. I like to try and keep peace. Thank you for coming over and sharing your thoughts.
