  1. That’s right up there with “Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we.”
  2. Guess what Obama’s approval rating was in April 2012...45% I’d put any any amount of money down that Trump wins this fall.
  3. Ahh crap you’re right. I saw nurses in the headline and was just thinking medical field only. Yea I think that’s overkill. While I’d love $50k for my wife and I were basically just printing money at this point. We won’t need toilet paper, just some nice worn in greenbacks lol.
  4. One of our local healthcare providers actually gave all patient facing hourly staff working with covid patients a $10/hr hazard pay increase, which will work out to more than $25k a year with OT.
  5. The current process gets rid of them because it’s unrealistic for them to run. No one is simply handing them a pile of money to run and be on a level playing field with thousands of other unqualified candidates.
  6. Who gets to run? And what percentage is allocated to each person? not saying the systems perfect, but it’s better than most. If another country was a better place to live than here I’d move there. Every country I’ve ever worked in was falling over themselves to hire educated Americans.
  7. I agree with this, just keep in mind that it would mean only Billionaires would have any success running for national office unless someone successfully crowdsourced their campaign. Bernie has been the best at that and he was woefully under funded. So necessary evil maybe? I don’t approve of the stock buybacks that occurred after the 09 bailouts, but I do see the need for bailing out some industries. For example, there would have been an economic collapse if you weren’t able to pull your money out of a bank or if your homeowners insurer couldn’t cover a claim.
  8. I would put money on oxygen deprivation, not the virus attacking brain cells as the root cause.
  9. Any examples of something that you’d like to see changed that won’t be because of the power 1% yield over govt policy?
  10. Ya I’m more referring to the current situation where you can make $52k a year doing nothing and some of the more extreme socialists ideas out there, like universal income. A lot of those people milking the system for 25k a year plus food coups are also working side hustles, paying no taxes. That said I think in our lifetimes universal income becomes a reality because of advancements in robotics and AI. For example, most freight will become completely automated via self driving vehicles and robots in our lifetime.
  11. I’ve seen it in all demographics and industries Ive worked in. There are a ton of hard working people out there like yourself and I but there’s more than enough people who’d rather just sit on their ass and get paid to make backstops taken advantage of. (Socialism) Or not work as hard as their fellow employee and get paid the same. (Unions). I may simply have seen more of it than you because of the demographic I group in.
  12. What if flattening the curve is simply giving the virus more time to mutate into something more deadly... The reason the Flu hasn’t been eradicated is because it’s constantly changing rendering vaccines ineffective.
  13. It’s artificially lowered because we’re on lockdown. The problem is it won’t disappear quickly. So how long can we afford to stay locked down?
  14. #humansarelazy lol. TBH I wouldn’t mind sitting at home for 50% of my pay, but all my work would just be sitting here waiting for me.
  15. A local large union electrical contractors employees bitched enough about it to get them to lay off everyone...there are people who will do anything to sit at home and collect a check. A couple of my projects are now on hold as I wait for them to collect their cheese.
  16. The number I have been paying attention to is global new cases per day. While not perfect as there's no way to currently test enough it is a good indicator of whether we are reaching a plateau in rate of spread. Once we do that then we can think about actually containing it. There are currently countries like India and Russia where I think the virus is spreading explosively but without testing to track. Its nearly impossible to socially distance yourself in the worlds most populous country... https://www.latimes.com/world-nation/story/2020-04-07/social-distancing-family-one-room
  17. Dana Whites idea somehow reminds me of the movie The Island...
  18. Anyone else notice how inconsistent reporting is in some other countries? Here is France for example. Today they're already approaching 12k new cases. On the 4th they reported an additional 18k cases that were unreported from nursing homes.
  19. Plus they're plenty of people who will take the extra money and work side jobs off the books.
  20. That's sad. I remember back in 08/09 hearing my dad and his friends talk about how they were taking advantage of the extended unemployment at that time. And just last week we interviewed someone who said they were going to have to decline because they'd rather be on unemployment making $1100 a week doing nothing than $1200+ a week working a job.
  21. Something happened with data correction yesterday. This morning new cases for yesterday was about 80k. Now it’s 101k new cases globally yesterday.
  22. This is only in Italy and only with the entire country locked down, correct?
