Extremely nasty severe cell moving in towards Goldsboro....looks hooky on radar but rotation isnt that tight as of now, still has to be some pretty bad winds at the surface and hail is probably getting ping pong or better...

Storm now heading my way. We are under a "special weather statement". Looks like the storms are just under severe criteria.

surprised no one talking about March 12 and 13, even GSP starting to say next week needs to be watched closely.  This would make sense, seems like during the ACC Tournament we get some degree of snow around the southeast.

Our local TV met has also said to watch next Monday/Tuesday as we could be seeing some white stuff in the area. Still to soon to even start getting hopes up but we will see.

Apple trees popped, a few blossoms showing, peach trees look like they are getting ready as well.   Killer frost is likely some time in March, damn it all.  I really wish spring would hold on just enough not to kill off everything again like last year.

We all remembered that one and the sad part is that we know a hard freeze is most likely coming sometime in March.

I had to turn my AC on got to 78 in the house even with the windows open and I gotta have it cold to sleep, low of 68 and a high of 80 tomorrow means it stays on till tomorrow nights cold front......and the neighbor behind me mowed his onion grass, hen bit and dandelions.

I kept my windows shut and the house temp never got above 71 even though the temp sored up to 78. I got wild onions and patches of grass growing in my backyard. This morning I noticed some trees are started to bud out.

  7. B- for me this winter. 3 snow events. 4" for the 1st, 2" for the 2nd, and a heavy snow shower for our third. Along with record cold for early January. Would have been a A except for this month being so warm. Does look like winter is over for us as far as winter weather is concerned. I still hope for some freezes later this month and into early March.

This weather board is virtually un-readable when theres not a a storm on our door step (mods arent watching closely). So many internet tough guys and dip s**ts that dont show any respect to other people. You try and look at mid term discussion and all you see is people bashing each other. I guess thats why the other forum has grown so popular...its a shame!

When you see that, the best thing to do is report it. Mods will take care of it.

From the NC Climate Office blog today...

This weekend, a reinforcing shot of cold air is on the way, and parts of the Coastal Plain with snow still on the ground could be looking at some of their coldest temperatures in years.

Sunday morning's forecasted low in Edenton is 5°F. The last time temperatures dropped that low there was almost 22 years ago on February 5, 1996, and that station has only been that cold seven times since 1872. Rare air, indeed.

They are calling for us to be close to 5F Sunday morning also. I will be our coldest since Christmas 1989 if it verifies.

So they are talking about this being the 3rd coldest New Year's Eve in New York City, with the coldest being Dec 31, 1917.  Dec 1917 was the coldest Dec on record in Charlotte.  Here's a photo of a car on the frozen Yadkin River from Dec 17, 1917.  Ice was 8 inches thick - http://surrycounty.pastperfectonline.com/photo/F57129DC-B587-492B-8753-585554254989
