  1. Yes struck the fear of God into most of my office..well played NWS
  2. We’re up at our place near Gore about 20 times throughout the year. My wife has come around to the fact that it’s not a cold and snowy place. Spring and summer get just as warm as down here and there’s plenty to do. Fall is spectacular. Winter usually means three months of white ground, as it should. It’s an adjustment but you’re not giving up a four season climate. Economic opportunity, especially within the park itself, is a different story though.
  3. I don’t know much about them but believe some of the western mountain states have lower costs of living than the Carolinas.
  4. No, wound up turning down that job as my wife couldn’t pull the trigger on moving to Maine. I’m in financial services and have been fortunate but still envious of the climate and lifestyle up there. You in law enforcement?
  5. It’s too bad you’d have to compromise on one of those points. I think out west living near elevation can be the best of all worlds but it’s certainly a big move, especially in retirement.
  6. Agree on those numbers. Extended snowcover can help compensate for lower totals too. but under 40" is never a satisfying season. Our place in the Adirondacks averages about 75" and even there I'm always looking for more..
  7. Depends what you consider harsh. 75-100" snowfall climo would probably be right up his alley...
  8. No need to go to Caribou - southeast Maine is a great spot. Almost took a job with Portland PD many years ago but couldn’t get my wife to make the move. You can almost triple our NYC annual snowfall just NW of Portland and still have true four seasons with both wilderness and real urban arenas close by.
  9. These ideas still have to be written lightly in pencil, but you can break out the magic marker for the Christmas torch. Never seems to fail '
  10. BN D, J, and F is just too much to ask for! For now I'll take December evolving as modeled and no one mountain biking in shorts at Christmas.
  11. Really feels never ending. When I comment on how extreme this stretch has been to people at my office they seem to have no idea. Funny how quickly people acclimate.
  12. Wouldn’t the impact of that heat release only be temporary - two or three years? Even with the overall warming does the nino heat release eventually dissipate?
  13. A lot of people will just see the headline and relay it around to friends. The article never suggests below avg temps or above avg snowfall for the mid Atlantic or NE. The only graphic in the article shows plain rain along I95 right up to NYC. Only “brutal” is the hype!
