January 2022's weather journal for Buffalo written circa 1691...
* Every day this month (26 days!) has had measurable snow. I fear this climate is too harsh for any long-term settlement as these conditions are akin to those rumored to occur in the far northern regions.
* The snow appears suddenly out of nowhere. Our local Doctor/Pastor/Postmaster/Weatherman announced today that the snow streak would be broken as the atmospheric pressure was certainly too high for any frozen precipitation to fall. No sooner said than 2 inches of fluff fell from the sky this morning. And lo...as I pen this there are yet more cotton balls pouring down into the night. Clearly weather forecasting has a long way to go...I'm sure by the 21st century such folly will never take place.
* The heavy falls of snow are unlike anything even written in legend. Two separate days in a little over a 1 week span where 17 inches fell!
* Remarkably, we have a report from our fellow settler Tughillory Matt of the Lysander colony of no snow cover, mild temperatures, and even early blooming plants. Given his proximate latitude to our colony he must be located in a wonderful microclimate to afford such mid-winter bliss. Oddly, all of his correspondence gives a sad and bitter tone.
So that's my silly way of relaying some pretty amazing stats for BUF in January (20)22!

NE CT should do quite well. I'll have to monitor next couple of days of model runs to see if a weekend trip is worthwhile. Might be the only decent snowstorm I see this winter. Saturday morning soccer and snowstorm that I could roll into a Sunday NFL day down there as my covid quarantine ends tomorrow.
Same. Daughter moved to Boston in the fall. Might be a perfect weekend for a visit/chase. Always wanted to experience a nor’easter bomb along the coast.

It’s been so long I forgot how nice these little clippers can be. Several hours of fairly steady snow with a couple hours of SN+ all while temps in the low 20’s. Kind of gives you the vibe of being up north in Canada with those temps as snow falls on top of a deep pack.

Snow picked up nicely here in the last half hour. Pretty steady and accumulating quickly.

Thing that bugs me the most about the already infamous final 13 seconds is letting Kelsey run free and uncovered on the last completion. How is that even possible? There needs to be 2 guys on him and Hill. Hold them if you have to, it’s only 5 yards. And the Bills called a TO right before that play too.

Just looked at the eps for longer out. Think thats a pretty sexy pattern for the north country. TPV pinned around hudson bay and you have a bit of ridging into AK and bit of trough in the west inducing some se ridge. Looks very gradient and active.
Agree. Rumors of winters’ eminent demise are highly exaggerated.

Only couple inches here but a very nice snowy morning. It’s been pretty steady since sunrise. Nothing like snow on top of snow. Congrats to the southern Erie peeps - surprised to see those big numbers!

Awesome! Heading there with the dog tomorrow.
Nice! That dog park is fantastic. Rammed around it a bit with this guy this evening before hiking at sunset.

Nice it is feeling like winter should feel finally! Cold.. Nice snow pack going. Have a perfect base that 17" of synoptic is down to probably 8-10" compressed and its so thick even walking on it i'm still 3-4" off the ground. Next two weeks overall looking promising to maintain and add here and there to the snow pack. When was the last time WNY as a whole had such a solid snow pack region wide that held for more than a week? Feel like all its been recently is storm and snow otg for 3-4 days then thaw melt wait wait wait wait wait repeat... Do we have to go back to Jan/Feb 2014?
Yeah, looks great too. My favorite hiking conditions…mid winter at dusk with clear sky, deep snowpack, and fresh arctic airmass. Here’s a couple shots from this evening at Knox Farm, East Aurora.

Giants pretty much down to the final 3 for GM.. Could know by the end of the week..Then on to HC lol
The Giants met with Bills assistant general manager Joe Schoen, believed to be the odds-on favorite to land the opening, on Tuesday. On Wednesday, they met again with Chiefs Executive Director of Player Personnel Ryan Poles. According to Tom Pelissero from the NFL Network, on Thursday, they will meet with 49ers assistant general manager Adam Peters.
Heard Giants might want Bills OC Daboll too as a package deal with Schoen. Price you pay for being a top team!

About 5'' of new snow today and currently 6 F, up from -5 this morning.
Wow, different world up there! What’s your current snow depth?

Great end to this event here in WNY...Steady snow for the last couple hours, added a couple inches to pad the stats. I can't give an "official" measurement b/c I haven't measured since about 8 am (16.5" at that time) but this last burst probably put me at or just over 20".
At least for WNY the modeling was phenomenal for this event. Starting showing a big storm with WNY in the bullseye around last Tuesday. Don't think any major model every really lost that idea at any time.

Still heavy snow here, no sleet yet but we have to be riding the line at this point with these frosty the snowman head sized dendrites. Eyeballing 6” new.
