  1. i love those mountain locations where it just snows all the time. "oh just another 3" over night, another 2-4" tonight. no biggie"
  2. mod snow downtown - too bad it's not really sticking
  3. yeah the price is ridiculous. the long and short of it is that the US sucks at passenger rail service. 100 years ago we led the world. now we don't even hold a candle to systems in the developing world.
  4. the NE corridor actually runs in the black (financially) - at least before COVID. It subsidizes the rest of Amtrak's network (which is a joke).
  5. yeah - we were there during a ton of great storms in the 2010s. Midtown Manhattan more or less silent with heavy falling snow - amazing.
  6. yeah if you live by IAD it's a no-brainer. Even DCA. Like I said - right now, Amtrak from DC to Boston isn't really workable (unless you don't care how long it takes lol). But DC to NYC is another story. Even if you live by DCA, I'd still rather go Union Station to NY-Penn on the Acela (if I'm trying to get to Manhattan).
  7. Granted - that is if the train had a reasonable runtime. As it stands right now, i'd fly over the train every day (and i love the train).
  8. yeah but you think door-to-door. Union Station to Back Bay or South Station is nothing vs going from like IAD to BOS.
  9. Everyone should experience it at least once - a heavy snow in Manhattan is magical. The city just becomes so peaceful - it's f*cking amazing. It is very fleeting (the inconvenience of a ton of snow in the middle of the city soon becomes apparent). But man, while it's snowing - nothing like it. Honestly.
  10. if we actually lived in a developed, industrialized country - a train from DC to BOS would take like 4-5 hrs.
  11. yeah if i didn't have two little ones, i'd do it. have a nice few days in boston
  12. Maybe models have severe issues between jan 25 and 27 it's some whack version of the Y2K bug (look it up kids). models just crap out on those dates in certain years.
  13. He from Philly. Its possible. All the philly posters post here lol lol i would bet money he already posts here.
  14. just remember in a couple months it'll be 75 and sunny here and they'll be stuck in 40s and fog.
  15. i would say model worshipper is a stretch tho. you like maps. models are plotted on maps. I mean there is a connection there but that is a bit strong imo.
  16. that's a really lovely neighborhood!
  17. i just don't want a life where I have to put my kids in the car to go everywhere. I mean where we live right now is perfect in that regard but we are running out of space, especially since our younger one will probably be walking within a couple of months.
  18. i've basically lived in city centers since about 2006 (DC, Philly, Caracas, NYC, DC) - I don't know if I could survive in the burbs.
  19. my issue with Palisades is lack of transit tho. I'd probably pick Kalorama Triangle as 1, and where you live as 2 (Cleveland Park). We are also considering schools - I mean Eaton just got a $60M upgrade.
  20. if you could live in any neighborhood in the DMV, where would you live?
