  1. I'm sure there have been some done - they have wrecked many political careers
  2. This is no joke - but after 2016, when we got around 30" - they did that travel ban. Snow stopped just before midnight - I believe it was a Saturday right? The next morning basically all the streets in Manhattan were clear, and a majority of streets in the other boroughs were clear over the next day.
  3. in all seriousness though - AND THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL POST - this is the type of thing that can completely derail you as mayor in DC to Boston. We'll see how DC does, but the snow operation actually has been pretty good. DSNY in NYC does a phenomenal job - they basically just take all the sanitation trucks and turn them into snow plows. Over time BDB figured out a good strategy of basically banning all but essential travel during and immediately after the storm - and they would just go nuts plowing the entire city. I believe Adams basically continued this. It's really the only way to do it, particularly in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
  4. lol oh yeah, he's probably a few drinks in. gotta let it slide.
  5. honestly I do not envy being a big NE city mayor during a snowstorm, particularly NYC. Fucking up a snowstorm will turn the city against you with a vengeance. There was a storm late in Bloomberg's last term where some of the outer boroughs didn't get plowed in a timely manner - boy he got ripped to pieces. And then early in BDB's tenure, the city wasn't ready for a big storm to hit. Dude got raked over the coals for weeks. Snowstorms are serious business in the city that never sleeps.
  6. Jeb I was supposed to be flying out your way on Sunday - obviously that's not happening, now we're going next weekend. Aren't you worried about losing power?
  7. having lived in NYC and been through a ton of snowstorms there - getting 3" along the ocean in Brooklyn and Queens and getting 12+" in the Bronx happens literally all the time, particularly in coastal storms like this. So what exactly is the problem again? NYC is a huge city.
  8. Honestly you could see that from JFK / along the coast compared to somewhere in upper Manhattan / the Bronx.
  9. lol oh god I didn't even think about that. "It's not snowing where I am but it's snowing everywhere else!!! Disaster!"
  10. ah yeah that's right - he came from Boston. They obviously needed to shake things up. I still think fundamentally the problem is the Lerners, but hopefully we can make some progress.
  11. thank god - I don't need to be out of power for days.
  12. the young ones need an event like this under their belt. We've all lived through many iterations of this.
  13. that's good to hear - at some point it would be nice to get out of this rebuild phase, although I suppose with the new GM, he's gonna have a couple seasons to do some work
  14. what's folks' take on the Nats trade with the Rangers? Feels like some shit Rizzo would've done - we sure he's still not the GM?
  15. I worked for a company based in London for a few years, and they would always say things like "we'll meet at 2pm GMT" etc - and I had to remind them that in the summer, they are BST, which is GMT+1. It sounds pedantic, but since EDT is GMT-4, but London is generally always 5 hrs ahead (except for the weird misalignment of the daylight savings start/end), the meeting time would not be clear.
  16. yeah it warmed up quick - I mean that's still our flex. Oh - we get a sunny day in January with light WSW wind? How about we push 60F.
  17. 56F for the high at DCA, 57F in upper NW
  18. yeah and the rug pull is - you get an inch of ice! Have fun!
  19. In C'ville we were in the low teens with heavy sleet. It was pretty wild.
  20. were you alive for PD2? Yeah it's kinda weird actually. It's almost like a more powdery sleet (I know that seems hard to imagine)
