  1. wild to think we'd have a layer of 40+F air when it's around 20F at the surface. That would seem to produce a catastrophic ice storm if it occurs though.
  2. Caps have a lead in the 3rd period. this feels... different.
  3. we had several inches of sleet from PD2 in Charlottesville. It definitely did not melt for a while.
  4. I wouldn't be surprised if DCPS is like a 2 hr delay on Tuesday and that's it (Monday is a teacher work day)
  5. yeah if I recall during the epic run that Boston had in 2015, they were putting snow in Fenway. Was actually an issue as baseball season was getting started, because there was snow still there.
  6. yeah I can only imagine - I hope they don't put the plowed snow in there
  7. yeah - DC definitely salts WAY more. Like our streets right now are basically white.
  8. you won't lose much to virga - the heavier precip will saturate the column pretty quickly
  9. yeah the issue is if you get a bunch of snowstorms back-to-back. Then the garbage might not get collected for a while lol (this happened in January 2011)
  10. I'm sure there have been some done - they have wrecked many political careers
  11. This is no joke - but after 2016, when we got around 30" - they did that travel ban. Snow stopped just before midnight - I believe it was a Saturday right? The next morning basically all the streets in Manhattan were clear, and a majority of streets in the other boroughs were clear over the next day.
  12. in all seriousness though - AND THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL POST - this is the type of thing that can completely derail you as mayor in DC to Boston. We'll see how DC does, but the snow operation actually has been pretty good. DSNY in NYC does a phenomenal job - they basically just take all the sanitation trucks and turn them into snow plows. Over time BDB figured out a good strategy of basically banning all but essential travel during and immediately after the storm - and they would just go nuts plowing the entire city. I believe Adams basically continued this. It's really the only way to do it, particularly in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
  13. lol oh yeah, he's probably a few drinks in. gotta let it slide.
  14. honestly I do not envy being a big NE city mayor during a snowstorm, particularly NYC. Fucking up a snowstorm will turn the city against you with a vengeance. There was a storm late in Bloomberg's last term where some of the outer boroughs didn't get plowed in a timely manner - boy he got ripped to pieces. And then early in BDB's tenure, the city wasn't ready for a big storm to hit. Dude got raked over the coals for weeks. Snowstorms are serious business in the city that never sleeps.
  15. Jeb I was supposed to be flying out your way on Sunday - obviously that's not happening, now we're going next weekend. Aren't you worried about losing power?
