yeah I suspect it's 99 since it's been three straight 37C readings (98.6F).

yeah it definitely stays cooler than it used to - I'd imagine midtown is pushing 100F at the moment. Heat waves like this in NY are horrible - the subway stations easily get to like 120-130F.

regional round up: BOS at 91 (low of 78) EWR is at 96 already lol (low of 82) NYC at 94F (low of 82) - should be the first 100 there since the 2010s LGA at 94F (low of 84) - the Queens/Brooklyn heat island is absolutely fierce. PHL at 94F (low of 80) This is a proper Acela corridor heat wave.

yep - gotta think in Celsius (bc of the backwards way they do the F -> C -> F conversion): 98.6 -> 37C 100.4 -> 38C 102.2 -> 39C 104 -> 40C 105.8 -> 41C

DCA is 94/76 at 11am. Absolutely brutal.

DCA actually hit 100 a few times in 2024 with a south wind, so it still can happen.

yeah once the bay water temp approaches 90F, we have some Gulf Coast-like micro-climates around here.

some years ago, during a very warm summer, JFK recorded a dewpoint of 84F with a wind right off the ocean (the ocean was super warm). If you're by the water, you can get there.

honestly they'll probably do it even with the river wind. If we get more of a western component then you're probably looking at a run at the all-time record.

My PWS hit 100.6/78 a bit ago, 97/76 now.

84 is the record right? Same is NYC. I think that year EWR had a low of 86 one of those nights lol. NYC had a 104/84 - I remember, lost the keys to my place out on a date. It was like in the mid 90s in the city at 2am as I was trying to get back into my building lol.
