  1. omfg same. It started at night with a huge burst of snow - sleet when I woke up the next morning. Sucked.

  3. How did you do in 96 2003 2016? 2003 was a huge sleet mess in C'ville (I was in school there at that point) - still about 12" of accumulation but the best stuff was about 100 miles to the north.
  4. Jan 2016 in NYC is a close second (about 30" with strong winds - and we lived in Battery Park City so HUGE drifts) - but 96 will always be the king.
  5. still the greatest storm in my lifetime. About 3 feet in the Shenandoah Valley.
  6. elevation is a factor - cities in the Shenandoah Valley almost always do better.

  16. this was one of the prettiest snow storms I can remember. I mean everything was just pasted white. And then yeah, you had that contrast with the clearing - very very nice! The NY'ers might not agree, but I think DC might be the best looking US city in the snow.
  17. Late January of 2002 featured an absolutely INSANE heat wave. It hit 81F in Staunton (https://www.wunderground.com/history/monthly/us/va/weyers-cave/KSHD/date/2002-1) and DCA hit 77F. I remember going to school in shorts that day.
