there have been worse busts - I remember we were forecast to get 24-36", Cantore set up shop, etc - and we got maybe 10" while eastern LI got like 3 feet.

at this point just need some form of precipitation - finishing the year missing about a quarter of the normal annual precip here.

it's approaching 50 here. similar phenomenon - it's in the upper 30s literally a few hundred yards away (and near the bottom of the hill we are on, which is kind of like a little valley).

yeah i'd say it's the last two weeks of Jan / first two weeks of Feb. There's always a delay at our latitude in both winter and summer in terms of peak "climo" and when the solstice happens. Our hottest weeks of the summer are generally mid July to early August.

honestly we should aim for 80 since Dec now is the only month in which DC has not recorded an 80F temperature.
