  1. It's been an interesting winter. Lots of small snowfalls which is great, but one thing I'm noticed is that relatively speaking we keep getting the shafts in this area. No complaints really, the difference at the end of the day is not that much and the snow quality has been great, but it seems that coastals just don't want to deliver for us. But hey, if be OK if we continued this way. Better than a couple of years ago when we went into school vacation week with an amazing snowpack only to be wrecked by April like weather.
  2. 3.7" here. Not bad, given I expected "up to 1""
  3. Snow has lightened up significantly. 1.7"
  4. Holy cow it's ripping snow out there. I was not expecting it.
  5. Apparently there’s a bit of a strep outbreak. Didn’t even know that was a thing. I don’t recall ever having a confirmed case of strep. If needed, ConvenientMD in Littleton can have you tested for strep COVID and flu and give you a prescription in about 15’, it’s pretty great.
  6. Been dealing with strep throat (hey, better than COVID) but I did venture out on the mountain today though my body did not feel ready. Completely different conditions than before the storm, but not in a bad way. The snow that fell is extremely dense - pretty much like sleet. It skied really fast! Nice resurfacing in the glades, since this stuff doesn’t get skied off nearly as easily
  7. Ok and just as I talk about downsloping it starts ripping lol. Also a bit bizarre- thermo says 34 but there’s not a drop of melting. Wind ripping though which is annoying - it blows giant chunks of snow off the trees. Rather skip this and head straight for the backside
  8. Nice! As always these setups don’t work for us until the wind shifts. 2” with some pretty serious downsloping. But no complaints, the upslope will come!
  9. We get plenty of white... just not a lot of blue!!! The downside of the upslope zone (you know all about it)
  10. Yeah you could see Mansfield from here like it’s around the corner
  11. I eventually won the battle just dumping salt and taking an axe to it breaking it into pieces
  12. I made the mistake of letting that accumulate under the roofline of my garage my first year here. First time it rained, all the water coming down from the roof channeled right into the garage, where it then froze solid. Took me weeks to get rid of the dam, and had a frozen garage all winter. Not doing that again!
  13. Our low was a very benign -0.9 - here too, though, fine light snow all night so no radiating at all
  14. Time to bring this baby home to NNE where snow belongs JK you all deserve some too
  15. Enjoy your first subzero snow this morning! I personally don’t care for these temps. Keep in mind, in a normal year subzero morning are pretty much the norm... but we’ve gone through that
  16. There are definitely differences, usually not significant. The entrance to Crawford Notch - the 1-2 miles of road around the Highland Center is the most prone to upslope, and it’s often more intense there than Bretton Woods proper. Coolest weather phenomenon there though happens occasionally in the summer when moist cool winds funnel up the notch and create clouds that look like are getting “puked” out of the notch. Can be really scenic.
  17. Just got back from Harts Location. Got caught in some sort of snownado in Crawford Notch. Scary drive! But another nice snowy night here too
  18. GYX AFD doesn’t even mention the NH mountain areas lol. Red headed stepchild
  19. Speaking of which, suddenly it went to moderate/heavy snow with big fluffy flakes
  20. I think that’s a great point. Growing up near the Alps in Italy, the Alps had great snow but not frequent at all. Patterns there can be very stubborn - you can have a 2 week period that brings 10 feet of snow, and then nothing for a month. But everything is above 3000 feet so the snow preservation is usually great unless you get what they call “Phoen” which is a downsloping wind from the north, that can wipe out a deep pack in no time. Here, while the East Coast is famous for its ice, upslope prone location actually have really good snow quality because of the consistent refreshers. I haven’t counted but it seems like we have measurable snow at least 50% of the days. That keeps surfaces nice and fresh, and trees covered. Great for skiing and so scenic!
  21. I’ve really stopped caring about epic. I’d rather have these great, prolonged 2” a day patterns than the heartache of coastal cutter no cutter etc etc.
