Good afternoon SORTA22, V W. I believe if I was driving this, Anthony might, instead of a ticket, ask for a ride. As for what I was doing on the night of the last 6+ snow event. …… I was wishing I could match it. Stay well, as always ….

Yet you ignore the entire HV of the state where you live which on this map does better than SNE.

You could live here too. Maybe time to get out of the snow hell hole that is Brooklyn.

Good morning everyone. Anthony, It’s hard to wait it out but when relief comes and the hole is, albeit briefly, filled it’s worth the wait. There are other options as CP suggested …… As always ….

Besides the glaring antecedent cold air issues, the setup is absolutely horrible, the trough orientation, NAO, AO, EPO, WPO, MJO, PAC jet, NO 50/50 low, the only thing it has going for it is a temporary +PNA spike that gets crashed into by the raging PAC jet extension, which deamplifys it and makes the pattern extremely progressive. Hard sell on a snowstorm anywhere near the NYC metro area 1/28-1/30

Thank you S19. I hadn’t had the pleasure of that word before. Stay well, as always …

He’s saying late February and March now actually. If we follow the same pattern progression as December/January it would take until after mid-February to go cold again. That said, this is quite the change from what he was saying. He had expected all of February to be a slam dunk cold and snowy pattern, then a big warmup early-mid March. Now he’s saying  *possibly* a flip to colder late February and March as the forcing/MJO goes back into the IO

Damn S19! Just when I finally figured out MJO 8-1-2 and its relation to Anthony’s screen name ….. you hit us with 10. As always ….

Good morning Allsnow. My vintage postage stamp model cannot match the Nimbus and perhaps we are fortunate that the the severity of their airmass is also unmatched. I doubt the city will ever have an event as pictured in the second photo. Stay well, as always ….

It's annoying that an ocean more than 3000 miles away has this much of an effect on our weather.  It's not like the Atlantic has this kind of effect on Asian weather =\

And even moreso, no one but no one wants more rain.  If it's going to be in the 40s and 50s it should be sunny and clear and no rain for at least a month.  Get the rainy, misty, foggy crap out of here, once and for all!

Good morning Liberty, Allsnow. I’ve read that the oceans absorb much of the carbon output. If the oceans are sentient perhaps what is being experienced could be called justice. If they are not then the effects may be more in the realm of self fulfilling prophecy. Stay well, as always …..

2”. Then a heavy .1 or so of freezing rain after fluffy cold snow. What a weird storm.

Agreed, a strange sequence. I shoveled the inch or so of accumulation and treated the stairs and walk. Some other folks may have figured that our usual warming would do the job for them. The consistent 20’s and light rain with a very brief after period of larger flake snow dictated otherwise. Below are photos of my row house steps a few hours after shoveling and treatment. The evergreen shows further evidence, with sagging branch ice accretion. I hope the next event is purer as to whatever type of precipitation occurs. Stay well, as always.

You don’t need to be anywhere near frostbite to feel that burning.  Blood vessels in the extremities always constrict in response to cold and dilate in response to heat.  The problem is very fast dilation from a constricted state is painful.  Lots of immune response signalers collect in the cold extremities because low blood flow makes them vulnerable.  Sudden return of blood activates all the accumulated immune signalers causing lots of burning, swelling, itching, and tingling.

A problem I have is finding boots sized to not cut off circulation in my toes.  I have super wide feet with a high arch and I’ve had problems with cold toes.  Sometimes thicker socks make the problem worse by squeezing my toes even tighter.  They also get very itchy after being numb for too long.

Good afternoon frostfern. I agree and understand having a splay foot with a 7E width on one and 6E on the other. I was advised to purchase the largest width I could find, which was 6 E. I was also advised to buy one size larger than my actual. In my case I bought size 9. I have to say, for me and being in my 8th decade, it worked. The extra size gave me the additional width I needed and yet the shoe did not feel loose to the foot. Stay well and warm, as always ….

It's funny how perspectives have changed over the last 20 years or so. In the 80s and most of the 90s, 4 to 8 was considered a heavy snowstorm.

Good morning WIN. I go back to the 50’s and 60’s. A heavy snow warning was given for an anticipated 4 inches of snow. Early TV forecasts by Dave Garroway and Jack Lescoulie were Quite different from today. Stay, as always.

My hill started pumping the water out overnight. It's spilling out of all the typical spots and a few new ones. The flow into my basement isn't as bad as last time, probably because of the new pressure relief valves

I don't need or want any more rain. See what y'all can do to steer it away. Thanx.

Gravity I’m not sure it will work in your situation but it helped when my daughters were young. Here’s hoping you stay dry, as always ….

  14. Good morning everyone. As per NOAA/NWS, CPK had 15 hours of measurable precipitation, total 1.95”. 1.47” occurred during a 6 hour period between 18:51 and 00:51. Lowest barometric pressure, 982.1/29.03 reported at 04:51. Highest wind/gust, E15/G30 reported 19:51. On a lighter note …. After reading Will’s response to Walt in the January thread ….. we may have to sink that buoy. Stay well all, as always. ….

My dream as well, rclab. Add a railroad and I would be set.

Good afternoon SMLI. I just read that the last light keeper, in the nation, has retired. She was at the Boston Light. I pray you have many years left for your dream to come true. Chronologically mine will always remain as a dream until I can dream no more. May you reach your light by rail, someday. As always …..
