  1. It was a really tough forecast as closer to the city it was rain until late in the day. We kept going back and forth but I don't think they expected 8-12" to pile up in about 6 hours. Kinda similar to the November storm we just had
  2. I got stuck in that one, took 5 hours to drive 15 miles (parsippany to Montclair). It was a rain snow mix and then just turned to heavy wet snow and started piling up around 3pm And that was before gps and I didn't even have a cell phone yet
  3. 108 degree heat in July, 18" of rain in August, Irene flooding and tree damage, October snowstorm and tree damage. March 9 degrees above average.
  4. I didn't know this happened during the 83 blizzard: February 11, 1983: Bulk carrier Marine Electric sinks in a savage winter storm, killing 31 of its 34 crew members. In their search for answers, investigators discover that dozens of other carriers are also at risk. Watch Disasters at Sea: Deadly Neglect, premiering Sunday at 9PM. http://bit.ly/2C5FMxW
  5. Also for those not familiar Ray's winter storm archive is a good resource though he stopped in 2013 http://www.raymondcmartinjr.com/weather
  6. Yeah South Jersey didn't get much
  7. gfs from 18z christmas day
  8. I think that was when the storm was over
  9. The forecasts weren't that far off but 48 hours out they were awful. Some of the models still had us getting nothing while the nam had 3 feet
  10. thankfully a year later we got this
  11. 8 years, crap where does the time go
  12. There's always a warmup after the first cool down. Its not going to stay like this
  13. Yes so many were laughing that the city would never get anywhere near their forecast numbers for that reason. Areas that underperformed got skunked more than anything, not because of temps. Unless we're going to start adding astericks to measurements that a foot is only a foot if it a foot accumulates on the pavement
  14. I hate bashing Steve D but he's saying his 4-8 localized 12 was spot on for the city. Maybe some areas didn't make 8 but wasn't the average across the 5 boros more like 9-13"?
  15. Actually not bad except for LI and missing the 2 foot bands He has 4" first guess for the Monday Tuesday storm for our whole region
