  1. Even if it hits the Yucatán it has plenty of time to regain strength. It’ll pass right over the loop current afterwards.
  2. Last 8 hours of IR to show trajectory.
  3. Both HAFS A and B track a bit further north of the Yucatan this run.
  4. Big convective blow up in the past hour or so.
  5. Guess peak intensity. Cat 5, 917 mb, 165 mph
  6. Something to note these 00z hurricane model runs were closer to the Yucatan.
  7. I don't remember the last time a hurricane model had an Atlantic storm modeled that low. This is some 3k nam stuff.
  8. 12z HWRF actually models a small storm that undergoes an ERC and expansion. I wouldn't count on a small hurricane like Charley.
  9. https://appalachiantrail.org/news/hurricane-helenes-impacts-on-the-appalachian-trail-and-nearby-communities/ This is tangentially related to everything going on with the catastrophe. The Appalachian Trail Conservancy is saying this is the worst natural disaster to impact the AT in it's 100 years of existence. It's not just the trail itself but the "trail towns" along its route. The AT is such an integral culture along these mountain towns and it will never be the same.
  10. Okay IDK if this is related but there was an insane amount of gnats down at Astoria Park this evening. I rarely ever deal with bugs there.
  11. I said earlier this has the potential to be what Irene was for the White Mountains of NH.
  12. It's been contracting gradually all day.
  13. Helene has the makings of being to the Smokies what Irene was to the Green and White Mountains.
  14. This might be better at illustrating your question.
  15. Spent 5 days in the St. Regis Canoe Wilderness in the Adirondacks. The autumn foliage just creeping towards peak. The Loons were incredible every night.
  16. Last 8 hours. Can really see the wobble in track.
