  1. Someone may have already posted this but the 1:00pm update in Central Park was 10.5 inches for the storm. The city now needs only 0.8 inches by the end of the month to reach a 30 inch average, when the new 30 year averages are calculated next month. Amazing when it looked like that was a lock 2 and half years ago and it's coming right down to the wire.
  2. There have been 29 Decembers with 10 or more inches of snow in NYC, but stupidly this morning I included this year being the 29th December with 10 inches or more in the calculations below. So there have been 28 full seasons in NYC with 10 or more inches of snow in December and here's how they fared. I'm sure most don't care but I do strive for accuracy, so here's the corrected percentages. 24 of those winters have then had 30 or more inches for the season or 85.7% 17 of the 28 have had 40 or more inches of snow for the season or 60.7% 9 of the 28 have had 50 or more inches of snow for the season or 32.1% 4 of the 28 have had 60 or more inches of snow for the season or 14.2% 1 of the 28 have had 70 or more inches of snow for the season or 3.6%
  3. All the geniuses come out of the closet when we get a decent size storm.
  4. I don't remember which storm but someplace on LI had 37 inches from one of these storms in the last ten years,
  5. Revision of first post There have been 29 Decembers with 10 or more inches of snow in NYC 24 of those winters have then had 30 or more inches for the season or 82.8% 17 of the 29 have had 40 or more inches of snow for the season or 58.6% 9 of the 29 have had 50 or more inches of snow or the season or 31.0%
  6. It does appear that Central Park did officially record 10 inches of snow from this storm. A couple of things of note about that. This becomes the 66th storm since 1870 of 10 inches or more in NYC and the 13th in December. The breakdown by months as seen below. This now brings the December 30 year average (1991-2020) to 5.1 inches. December now needs 1.3 inches of snow to get the December average to 5.2 which will bring the 30 year average to 30.0. I hope it's in the cards.
  7. no official updates since the 1am 6.5 inches. I saw people reporting 10.0 inches on twitter for the Park but not offical
  8. 11.5 inches as of an hour ago. Maybe i eke a foot but probably a hair short. With all the hype for us here, this pretty much matched the December 2nd storm from last year but in a much different way.
  9. 21.2° and moderate snow. I haven't been officially to the snowboard yet but it looks like it's at the 11.5 inch mark although I can't tell for sure from inside, so I should make or exceed that foot which was my minimum criteria for this storm. Okay with it but not ecstatic either. It met the minimum and so far hasn't even passed last December 2nd storm here of 12.0 even.
  10. I've had the same discussion with several people since the change and I agree with you 110% for the same reason. Unfortunately those in power do not.
  11. 9.0 inches even at 2AM and calling it a night. Snowing at a better clip now and better snow growth but not great, yet. Hoping to exceed 12 inches by morning. Good luck to all.
  12. 6.5 inches in Central park as of midnight. Will see how much falls on the 17th but this leaves the city now 4.8 inches short of getting Decembers 30 year average to 5.2 which will then bring the 30 year average to 30 inches. The average for December now stands at 5.0 inches, 4.99 to be exact, which if no more snow fell this month would put the 30 year average at 29.8 This will make it an interesting last 2 weeks.
  13. Few and far between the last decade? I count 15, and this one will make 16 since 2010. That's not bad for any major city. I think I even missed a few.
  14. If this somehow verified between now and noon I'd be ecstatic.
  15. 7.8 inches otg 19.0° and snow has picked up in intensity. Not the quality of flakes it was earlier, snow/graupel mix, when over 3 inches piled up in an hour but no sleet either. Maybe I will make it to 12.
  16. 7.4 inches as of 11PM, 19.6° Snow just starting to pick up in intensity again after going through the dry slot for an hour.
  17. Rob, I'm insulted you even ask. Nope just taking total depth measurements every hour on my snow board. Although I believe the rules are now that you are supposed to clear it at midnight, like that's gonna happen.
  18. 6.8 inches as of 10:00 pm. 1.3 inches in the last hour, so thank God for the 3.3 inches from 8-9 or this would be bordering on a Greek Tragedy
  19. Hate to be unfeeling but, if it stays down there I'm okay with it.
  20. 9 PM measurement 5.5 inches here. I can ecstatically report 3.25 inches in the last hour. Of course tempering my enthusiasm, because why should any of us have a worry free snow fall at 19°, is the dry slot and the sleet showing up closer and closer. I have to stop watching models before a storm because they never live up to expectations be it positive or negative.
