I truly think there are way more ways for the valley to lose out on snow than Butch Jones/Derek Dooley could lose football games in 100 years
expecting good snow here is like expecting a win when you start JG
Best analogy. Ever.- 1

That’s a great question… anyone have thoughts on this?
.
What version of RadarScope do you have? Pro 1? Asking b/c of the longer loops in the super res options. I can only get the longer loops in the lower resolutions- 1

Any guesses what precip type I've had this morning?
Frogs? Cats / dogs?

Finally sticking! Ripping here. We have had some good rates throughout the day. Just never could stick. As soon as the sun went behind the hill: magic.
Inskip area……??? Finally started sticking here in FT City about 20 minutes ago.- 2

My wife asked me to explain our snow chances in Knoxville using terms she could understand, and not all the technical info discussed here. I told her "fading faster than a geriatric erection". She understands now.

So me and a few other guys are on a Tennessee sports message board. I joined that site in 2004 and we have been chasing these storms since then. In the 18 years I’ve been chasing snow on VQ, I can only remember 1 or 2 storms where we didn’t have a temp profile issue somewhere in the column. The valley is always threading the needle but as we go you will see that for whatever reason, interstate 40 turns out to be the R/S line 90% of the time. A good example is the last storm. I’m 20 min north of Knoxville in Halls and the last storm I stayed all snow. One of my good friends lives 2 miles south of 40 in west Knoxville and he was 50/50 rain snow. Knoxville is wild
.To add to your post......I live about 10ish miles south of you in Fountain City, and we flip-flopped between a mix and snow. Think we had about an inch or so of accumulation. My general approach the last few years is to take the model with the worst output for my area, then shave 75% off that total. That way my frustration at the lack of winter precip is not preceded by doubt/worry and doesn't come as a complete shock. Surprisingly (and sadly), that approach has worked quite well in regards to totals the past few years.

Just noticed this huge blob of mixed on Radar Scope. Anomaly??? (pic won’t load)

Surface temps are not the problem. 850’s are 3-4°c
.
So are we looking at more of sleet/mixing issues in that case?

Thanks so much! I will check it out!

Lots of people are saying UT should have kicked a field goal instead of going for it on the goal line. I disagree. My take - Heupel had already gone for it on 4th down on that drive…..so go for it again. Also, him going for the TD instead of a FG was sending a message to the team “I believe in you”. After all the damage the last few whistle-dick coaches have caused - win or lose, it sends a signal to the players that he’s got their backs (and SHOULD pay dividends down the road in team growth/unity). As much as I hate the end result…..I would rather lose from our effort (or lack) on the field, than a terrible officiating call. (Which……..why was that tight end TD for Purdue not whistles dead because forward progress had stopped???)

Because of the shape and the fact a full body scan didn’t show anything else, the Doctor is 95% sure it’s not cancer. Yes the tumor caused her seizure from the pressure. The mass is egg shaped but flat and lays between her skull and brain. It’s a little bigger than a softball but it is flat and doesn’t go into her brain. Surgery is July 15th and please pray for us. The doctors feel really good about a full recovery but they won’t know everything until they get in there.

36.5 this morning. That's very chilly for mid May.
46 in Knoxville. And yet....kids at the bus stop were wearing shorts and a t-shirt. These are the same teens only wearing a hoodie when it was 23 one morning a few months ago.

Definitely not the heavy rains / storms that I thought would come through tonight. Hopefully it’s just enough to knock the pollen levels down a bit.

Sorry to see and hear that!!! I’m in Fountain City also......but thankfully nothing here but soggy yards.

I know it's been said before, but I have to say it again......the new radar that the NWS put out not too long ago is just plain God-awful. It's worse than the old dial-up days of the internet.
