  1. Anyone else thinking 3-6” in and around Knoxville could be a little light?

Based on the consistent numbers these runs keep spitting out, I most certainly agree with you. One of my previous ways to “forecast” amounts at my house was to take about 75% off projected totals (and it worked!) but I’m not really feeling that with this system!!! Bring me the goods baby!!!!! Even though we live close to each other, I can’t wait to compare totals with you and Stovepipe. I think Silas live kinda close also.

  2. It never fails. I step out for a while, then finally get a chance to catch up on all the posts while I’ve been away. Reading the posts…..things keep looking better and better and better. My hopes go up. My enthusiasm is through the roof. Then as I’m catching up and getting towards the end of the comments - there’s a model run (Euro) that makes the doubt and fear come roaring back. So here I sit…..worried and pissed until we get more data and trends. It sucks being a snow lover in the south.

  3. Channel 4 here has scaled way back.  Some are now saying hardly any snow.  Hilarious how the pendulum swings.  If no snow I do hope this cold spell is very short lived.  I will cover my new landscaping hoping to save it.  Cold & dry can get lost for all I care.  Working in it sucks.

Wonder how that crow tastes since they are the ones that put out that snowmageddon info yesterday?

  4. Alright peeps……with the potential for a healthy dose of winter weather coming our way, I need to make you aware of the “Curse of The Snowman”.

You see…..my wife has this decorative metal snowman that she hangs on the door every winter after Christmas. And every year we get what I call “nuisance snows”…..those around an inch or less. When she takes it down…..we get amounts well over 3-4” or more (2014, 2015, 2020). I live less than 5 miles from PowellVolz and he ALWAYS gets more than I do!!!

Even more, when this dang metal contraption is hanging, it partially covers the window on the door and from the inside of the house, with the light shining from the outside……it creates a shadow that looks like an eerie jack-o’-lantern laughing at me!!!

There is simply no way of NOT hanging this on the door. So this year, while saying a silent prayer to Frosty, I hung the metal snowman myself. So hopefully there’s some new mojo that will work in our favor.

Yeah……this is all in jest……but you have been warned!!!

  5. I think most of the forum region got in on it, except maybe Chattanooga and Memphis. But they may have gotten in on it too. 40 corridor and north had several events of snow/sleet/freezing rain. Parts of Middle Tennessee got 12+ from one storm in January 2016.

If my memory is correct, Knox County Schools we’re out for two weeks. We had 3-4 snow events during that time frame, and below freezing cold for quite a few consecutive days.

  6. A fairy tale starts with “Once Upon A Time”.

A southern fairy tale starts with “Y’all ain’t gonna believe this ****!!”

All that to say…..our Facebook weather forecasters are already talking about the early March system. Why???

I’m perfectly ok with it being discussed here, because it’s a weather forum made up of people who exercise common and logical sense (and have a good amount of knowledge regarding weather in our area).

But the simple word “SNOW” on social media is clickbait and makes IQ’s drop into the single digits and thus starts the endless IMBY questions from all the little Johnny’s who barely have enough common sense to follow the shade around the house!!!

    Stepping off soap box.

    Carry on…….

  7. LOL!  We must be around the same age. I grew up in Cookeville and remember missing school for what seems like weeks on end when I was in kindergarten & 1st grade (those late 70’s winters).  I remember January ‘85 especially due to the cold and the January ‘88 storm.  I remember being glued to TWC for day’s leading up to March ‘93 and because it was college spring break (glad I didn’t have plans….) 95-‘96 was a banner winter.  The only other 90’s event worth noting is the surprise foot of snow we received early February of ‘98.

93 was my senior year at TTU!! Fun times during that event!!

Here is a still image since the gif resolution is pretty low.

I can usually look a correlation coefficient and see a rain snow level or line, but there is A LOT going on in that radar image and its over my head.
Here is the hydrometeor classification for those interested. If it is right, snow is really trying to reach the surface:

The light blue is "dry snow" and the darker blue is "wet snow". The pinkish color is "graupnel" and the red is "hail," the yellow is "big drops" and the green is "little drops." sorry for the random quotes but I was trying to denote that those terms on radarscopes, not mine.

Thanks for that info!!! What is the red at the end of the loop (on the Hydrometer Classification)? Heavier rain?
