And the most extreme example I can think of is Katrina.  Down to 125 mph at at landfall, but still all-time record surge of 28 ft!

Yeah, if Emily didn't get retired (and that was a C5), I highly doubt they are going to retire Edouard.

When I went down to the Gulf Coast a few years ago, there were still foundation slabs dotting the landscape. Katrina wiped out neighborhoods and some people just never rebuilt. Sad stuff but a powerful reminder of what some of these hurricanes can do.
