February 2015 is currently the 18th coldest to date for Indianapolis, through yesterday. One spot behind 2014 right now (21.6˚ vs 21.2˚). Looking ahead, good chance Feb 2015 finishes colder than 2014. Number to beat is 22.3˚ from last year (12th coldest on record).

For FWA, this Feb currently ranks as the 13th coldest to date...like IND, one spot behind Feb 2014 currently (16.9˚ vs 16.4˚).

SBN at the 13th coldest February. That's colder than last Feb thru 2/20 by one degree (16.7˚ vs 17.7˚).

And EVV...14th coldest February to date. Like SBN, one degree colder compared to last year at this time (27.6˚ vs 28.6˚).

Good stuff...a -41 departure for this morning's low temp. I have to imagine it's the coldest low temp so late in the season...and probably by a long shot.

It is.  The coldest February reading at Bloomington occurred on February 12, 1899, when it got to -20F.  That was the latest occurrence of -16F or colder, until today.

Have a chance to do something pretty unusual on Friday.  Current forecast for LAF is 0F, but MEX is showing -1F.  LAF has only had a few below 0 readings in March at the airport, and even the WL COOP has only done it about a dozen times.  Obviously far from a lock but something to watch.

Too bad the snow cover will be gone by then. I remember we had a shot last March, but only got down to 2˚ on 3/3/14.

I'm not confident we lose it all.  Looking at about 12-15 hours with temps above freezing and dewpoints probably not above freezing for that entire time, plus lack of heavy rain.  It will take a big hit but assuming those conditions and that temps don't spike well above forecast, I think some of it survives.

Yeah, you may be right. Regardless...need to go over to the airport and put the piles close to the thermometer.   :D
