Violent Tornado Parameter now popping a narrow band of 10 in KS, I don't have a frame of reference but based on the colour light purple used I assume that's extreme! 6+ in that large area almost connecting to KS is wild.

Are you referring to the VTP(Violent Tornado Parameter)? That is listed under composite indices now. It started out on the beta column.
That's it, I thought parameter originally. Didn't look into it closely til now, it doesn't have forecast values with RAP.
-
The last time OK had a high risk was of course May 20, 2019.
I remember this product I think it was from SPC called "Violent Tornado Index" (VTI) or another derivative - I can't find anything like that now. SPC experimental products page has nothing currently.
Its not this: https://www.spc.noaa.gov/exper/outbreaks/

Amazing day unfolding here, 24C humidex of 28 for a high. Chance of a t-storm. I didn't see any fog as forecast early this morning - just blue skies instead of mostly cloudy!

Man 2024 is turning out to be a pretty epic plains year, its been too long.
Yep. This pattern of quality, photogenic twisters in the central plains is a dream for chasers! It feels like an eternity since a stretch like this - in fact I think this may be the best one since 2008? I don't remember it well now. Other active periods didn't have this consistency, I would prefer this over 2019.

The tornado will be near... Bronte around 500 PM CDT. Other locations impacted by this tornadic thunderstorm include The Intersection Of Highway 208 And Ranch Road 2662. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... To repeat, a large, extremely dangerous and potentially deadly tornado is on the ground. To protect your life, TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris. Heavy rainfall may hide this tornado. Do not wait to see or hear the tornado. TAKE COVER NOW!
Photogenic mode over. I see the eye even on TWN radar which is a subpar source.

A perfect Spring day here, couldn't get any nicer!! No wind to chill when out there, no full leaf out. I hope I'm wrong but it seems like this combo for spring only happens once per season. 20C roughly but for some strange reason TWN keeps showing a crazy low reading like 12C now 15C
This is exactly what I was hoping for - we don't need another crazy forest fire season with a summer filled with smoke:

How is the location name of a famous tornado settled in the wx community? Some of these recent iconic tornadoes like Katie/Wynnewood OK and Dalton/Ashby MN have equal occurrences of both places as a name.
-
The Westmoreland KS Curly Q is probably going to be the most unique and incredible of 2024 but not the best of all time. There are too many insane videos to have a #1, I could narrow to a Top 5 perhaps. Its this year's version of the Dalton/Ashby MN July 8 2020.
I understand the panning up and down to get the scope of the absurd length of the funnel but I wish at least someone kept the base in view longer. The chasers were in a very dangerous spot where they could've been killed instantly by that debris but we got something special from it.

I felt chilly last night around 10pm when the air temp dropped into the 70s. Amazing how quickly the body acclimates.
When I was in Malaysia with the extreme humidity there was a time it dropped to 78F and I felt cold.
Mid last week was terrible with "filthy" temps both at night and day. It was below 0 chill even during the daytime Weds! Overnight low Thurs I think was -5C then you have this weekend where Sat into Sun overnight it was 20C here! Sat was great in the afternoon it over-achieved to 23C humdiex over 26. The trend of rain in the morning then clearing later in the day continues. Just today a squall line gave 6mm so 9mm total so far today.

Hey guys… not from this sub forum but happened to be in the area. Almost got ran over by the Lincoln, NE tornado. not chasing just driving through. Apologies for the freak out I’m more of a casual weather fan and have never seen a tornado in real life before. Legit thought I was going to take a direct hit. Anyway just thought I’d share.
Beyond insane that you weren't chasing and saw that! Also the debris nearly hitting those that were outside, wow. Glad your okay.

The hail, well that definitely over-performed. The sun wasn’t even out most of the day so I wasn’t even expecting to hear thunder. It’s impressive to get severe hail with dewpoints in the 40s. It’s more common at high altitudes, like Colorado.
I was in thick clouds all day until just before dark when the sun poked through for 30 mins, then I got a regular t-storm with the smallest sized hail briefly by 9pm. This is the 3rd hailer in 2 weeks; wasn't expecting any last night. Quality thunder but only 15 strikes detected.
-
I'm not in the MRGL contour but t-storms are expected later tonight here from TWN hourlies. Temp will be around 8C windchill of 4. Its evokes last April when I had that potent early morning sub-severe storms with the same temps.
Two weeks ago today (Apr 9) I had multiple rounds of storms with a supercell that just clipped me - I had 5 mins of large pea to dime-sized hail with 90 strikes in an very short period of time. The skies were amazing all til sunset as another storm brought some more brief hail around 6:30pm; I can't call forth any memory of this happening since living here in Hanover. Will be among the best active days of 2024, just 24 hours after the total solar eclipse!
-
I got down to -2.5C/28F this morning, blue skies at least. Thankfully no wind which made it okay unlike the past 4 days of horrible chilly winds! Late last week it would be raining and dark overcast in the mornings and then clear up by mid afternoon seemingly 3 days in a row. First part of April was good but starting early last week wx has been terrible.

Locally and in Waterloo/Windsor just had their earliest 20C reading in recorded history! Got to 22C in Windsor. I didn't think I'd see Mar 8, 2000 beat for decades even with the warming climate since there is no correlation to first 20C reading on that. It appears to be sunny too, insane!!
-
After nothing earlier in the day, I started getting heavy snow at 7pm - within 40 mins I had 2-4 inches caking up everything good. Memorable!

Summer is also back imby, twn showing 20C! Thurs' low is supposedly going to be 16C, that's fun
-
Had the first frost of the season which is insanely late; I don't know if this is the latest I've ever seen but top 2 for certain. Somehow up til now we never went below 2C but overnight it was -1C maybe a tad cooler. My forecast busted too low showing -4C with windchill at -8!! There wasn't even any wind when I went out there lol. The largest shift in my climate is how late the frosts on avg are getting.

Beat me to posting (2nd time tonight), huge part of central OK in 20+ VTP at 03z is beyond absurd...
