  1. 30.9/14.0 at 5:55pm Silver Spring, inside the beltway
  2. Wobble-watching on the 1 minute refresh GOES-16 is a whole other level of crazy.
  3. Yeah, I believe psuhoffman was vocal about that tradeoff in the last thread. If you want to avoid any chance of mix whatsoever, get ready for a colder, dry storm. That's not an unreasonable trade to make, but it won't give you the 20" HECS
  4. Therein lies the difficulty with apps and websites (and even newspapers to an extent) that are limited to a single icon to define the day's weather. It may well mix in between snow batches, but this has never looked like a long-term, infrastructure-crippling ice storm.
  5. CWG has an updated map out that isn't drastically different: https://www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2021/01/30/washington-dc-winter-storm-snow/#click=https://t.co/fpM4o6Jh69 imrs.webp
  6. I'm seeing close to a foot for DC proper on the 6z Euro but a number of disappointed posters. Who got shafted this morning? South of the city? Honestly if we get 6" (DC) I'll be thrilled. It's not like there's much difference in fun or beauty between 6 and 12", and the latter is twice the shoveling.
  7. There are always fewer people posting inside the beltway than I expect, but I'm one who is more than happy with the 18z VS 12z, at least if you take them at face value. Things are coming together nicely for a good DC snow.
  8. If you had to pick one with no other information, the Euro operational run is pretty solid at that range.
  9. The deleted post you guys are ragging on was 100% spot on. Man it's hard to lurk on here. Forums die when they become "insider only" at the exclusion of newbies. The number of regular posters who post junk in the discussions and then complain when someone else does it is irritating. Either lock down the thread in storm mode or don't complain about banter when you do it too.
  10. Light snow in Silver Spring now. Surprised when I woke up that the car windshield was white again with the thinnest of fresh coats.
  11. Our backyard (silver spring) is quickly down to 30.7 deg after peaking around 34 at 9:30pm. Porch rails are starting to glaze a bit but so far that's it for visible icing.
  12. 31.5 degrees before the snow, 30.9 at the onset, and now 29.8. Still kind of grainy snow but not mixing over in Silver Spring.
  13. If you haven't gotten a more complete answer, its "military" time aka 24 hr time, and the z is for Zulu, aka Greenwich Mean Time. In EDT you either subtract 4 or 16 depending on morning or afternoon (just do whichever doesn't make it negative), and in EST subtract 5 or 17.
  14. In Silver Spring (just inside beltway) it's mostly snow but pretty grainy. Definitely hasn't puked fatties or whatever people like to say.
  15. I guess it's nice to have temps at 30 degrees the night before a snowstorm inside the (DC) beltway rather than nervously watching 40 degrees weather. But that's about it.
  16. Or 10 posts about March sun and 640 posts joking about posts about March sun.
  17. That's always my go to just for being burned in as such a painful memory. We didn't even MIX for most of the day while Cantore broadcast from the Mall. Meanwhile I had co-workers out in the boonies snowed in for days...
  18. This is a nice pretty snow to watch at least. It may not accumulate much beyond the grass, but I love watching big fat flakes fall when it's calm and quiet outside.
  19. All rain as far as I can tell. Silver Spring inside the beltway.
  20. All rain so far in Silver Spring. Just watching and waiting....
  21. I love waking up the day after a snow storm and seeing almost all the snow still on the trees and ground. January storms are the best. No plows on our street to wreck it yet, either!
  22. We have 9.0" right now measured on a car top in the open. Maybe would have been 10+ with regular clearing. Definitely a fun day all around, especially with the mid afternoon snow round and the late 7pm burst.
  23. Thanks, Bob. I suppose snow does fall a lot slower than rain. Indeed, it's really picking up now. Nice to have daytime snow accumulating on top of last night's base.
  24. Sitting in Silver Spring hoping this band materializes. Radar looks like the good stuff should be overhead by now but virtually nothing is falling. Reports from elsewhere have me eagerly watching the windows...
