Upstate/Eastern New York-Into Winter!
TugHillMatt replied to BuffaloWeather's topic in Upstate New York/Pennsylvania
The cooler air has undercut sooooooo many times this year. I can't believe how many times the Mid-Atlantic and even Southeast has been cooler than Upstate NY (especially stupid Sizzlecuse). -

I picked up on it right away...and my blood pressure immediately shot up.... -

Crunkest....what an interesting adjective....lol The Central PA guys are a good group too. Living in different parts of the northeastern part of the country and interacting on different subforums though, I love ours. It's a good reminder to me that while New Yorkers have a strong, cold exterior about them, many are teddy bears at heart and really do care about others. They just have an interesting way of showing it. As much as I find people in the Syracuse area miserable, they are some of the most generous I've ever met...and once they FINALLY open up to you, they are LOYAL friends. Glad to have you join us...and I look forward to chatting about "our area" with you this lake effect season. P.S. I am going to Tennessee during Thanksgiving week (wife's sister/family live in Clarksville)...which as the guys on here know...means WINTER STORM. They love when I go away during the winter because I take my curse with me. lol -

The backdrop of colors against his black coat makes for a fantastic picture! This legit could be a puzzle. -

To be fair...several of them have been kind and given good responses/suggestions....so for those guys, may they get 15 inches of snow and 10 inches of rain instead. -

Bahahaha! -
Thanks for the head's up. It's nice to know there's some solid, kind people on here. I honestly wasn't trying to "argue" or anything. I was just trying to have a discussion with some other weather-passionate people...not get snarky replies. I remember growing up and watching WBAL forecasts and those to me, seemed solid. So to see the maps posted earlier, yeah, I was a bit flummoxed.

LOL...LOVE it! Please do! All their passive-aggressive side remarks and "better than though" attitudes...they can shove it. I was trying to have a DISCUSSION. -

Oops. Made the mistake of trying to interact with the twats on the Mid Atlantic subforum. Called them insufferable jackoffs. lol....so thankful for this subforum. I hope they get 15 inches of rain and 10 dustings all winter. -
Sure enough. Sad that some of them are incapable of having a conversation outside of their bubble. A couple of the guys have had great responses privately when I asked them about the Deep Creek Lake area. But you post on here and it's assumed "you're arguing" or "don't belong." Now, THAT seems silly. Anyways, always appreciate you and your openness....and we are very welcoming in the Upstate NY subforum...as you know!

I was on my lunch break. My bad. I should have known better than to comment on the Mid Atlantic forum, where some of you are insufferable jackoffs.

Lol...that would sting a bit...

That's pretty much what I'm saying...why even include Pittsburgh, and an embarrassing call at that, if it's not even in the area. It might look odd to cut it off at the end of their viewing area, but to me that would be better than putting some junk call out for that area. It doesn't make a big deal to me personally, of course...but I'm all about presentation and as a teacher, I would expect a professional to not make such a careless map.

Wow, your foliage is waaaay behind ours. We lost many of ours over the past week. It was a pretty disappointing foliage season here, with the trees changing quickly and dropping their leaves in a few days. I think the ridiculously warm October stressed them. -
How sad. There are people outside of their little universe....I realize Pittsburgh isn't part of their viewing area, but why even include it if you're just going to slap a color and number over it? But I guess that's pretty much what these maps are anyways. Ha!

It looks like PIttsburgh, PA would only get 5 to 13 inches on that map? The odds of that are extremely low. Less than 50 inches for the high elevations of WV? What an awful map...really, an embarrassment to their station.

Interesting snippet from BGM's discussion: There is still some uncertainty with the synoptic pattern by later Sunday with some indication that a secondary wave may drop south and add some changes to the flow pattern which would disrupt the location and timing of any remaining lake bands. Will have to keep a close eye on this weekend pattern and how it evolves into early next week. There is the potential for some significant accumulating snows somewhere downwind of the Great Lakes. When, where and how much are still in question, but the pattern looks favorable. -

Beautiful outside...but if I wanted to be warmer than places 100s of miles south, I wouldn't have moved to Upstate New York. -

Yet again.... it's warmer here than Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, Baltimore, etc... Becoming a very common thing... -

I have noticed Oswego county doesn't do well at all with many synoptic events. I think downsloping plays a much bigger role than is often discussed in the weather world in relation to many lake effect areas...Oswego being one of them. Heck, even when I was in South Redfield, I felt that was an issue. During synoptic events, the snowfall just seemed like it was struggling...like when you see lots of space/dry air falling between snowflakes (hard to explain). So, during these exceptionally mild winters where cold air and lake effect snow is lacking, I could see how a place like Oswego could have worse results than here. Those snowfall dumps bring up those season totals! -

This looks great for a start to winter. I just hope we don't use it all up by Mid December and go warm the second half of the month into the Christmas holidays. That December 15th to 24th period has been troublesome as of late. -

@Syrmax, during your commutes to Oswego from Northern Onondaga county, did you notice much difference in snowfall/snowpack between Oswego and our area? I know the strip between, from Fulton to Volney, jackpots. However, I have a couple of colleagues who live in Oswego and commute to Bville...and they say that we often have more snow than they do up there. The only times this isn't the case are when Oswego gets hammered by those close-to-the-lake tea kettle snows. -

@40/70 BenchmarkThanks for sharing! On your table above, do you mean "'21-22" for your column headings?
