  1. And it is likely that it doesn't stop the infestation because many if not all insects have become resistant to pesticides. And chinch bugs fall into that category. The overuse of pesticides and other lawn care products have made it increasingly difficult to control insects. When I was a kid, and playing baseball and football ,the fields were all in pretty good shape. No one used lawn care products. The lawn care industry has made billions by convincing home owners that they need the perfect lawn. Do you honestly think the lawn care companies are producing top of the line products?? The answer is no they are not. They are producing products that barely work for the most part because they want home owners to continue to purchase their products in the hope that the lawn will look better. It's all one giant con game.
  2. What is more important to you, your lawn or your health? I would never use products like sevin. There is no upside at all. Why not dig out the area and put fresh top soil down and then reseed?
  3. For the last week or so he's been protesting outside of the coalition's office......
  4. Now that James wants Dorian to go east it is very likely to come west
  5. The future radar even depicts Dorian in Steeler colors......
  6. Don't worry, Gov Baker will have the electric company trucks parked outside of your home by noon tomorrow at the latest. Perhaps the Buffalo Bills will send the Electric Company to your home!
  7. Also noticed GFS and the Legacy also have Dorian strengthening
  8. Just read JB's twitter, he mentioned a possible re-intensification due to warmer water and the configuration of the coast.
  9. You may enjoy this book. https://www.amazon.com/American-Hurricanes-1492-1870-McWilliams-Ludlum-dp-0933876165/dp/0933876165/ref=mt_hardcover?_encoding=UTF8
  10. After reading your post I decided to check Ebay for listings of newspapers with coverage of the 1938 Hurricane. Listed for auction is a copy of The County Review from Riverhead NY. It's interesting to view some of the photos of the paper. Have you ever checked at your local library for newspapers from that time? Edit: Also came across this ebay listing https://www.ebay.com/itm/1938-Newspaper-Photo-Book-WORCESTER-GAZETTE-New-England-Hurricane-Flood-Storm/233004700772?hash=item3640
  11. There are some individuals who are going to complain and find fault with anything and everything. The comment section(s) on sites gives them the opportunity to have a voice. Many sites have removed the comments section because some individuals spend all day commenting on various news articles/stories. About 10-12 years ago there was a poster on Yahoo Finance who would post thousands of times a day about Sirius Sat Radio. He was a fan of XM Sat radio. Every post he made was a negative one. Eventually Yahoo changed how the comments section functioned. The change meant the poster had to go into each comment to reply rather than making a series of posts in one long thread. Not all that long after the change the individual stopped posting.
  12. Certainly was an amazing storm. The damage today would shock people. Katherine Hepburn's family home was in Old Saybrook http://www.historybyzim.com/2015/07/katharine-hepburn-the-new-england-hurricane-of-1938/
  13. Many years ago I attended a sports auction and one of the auction items was a newspaper from the day after the hurricane hit. It was in pristine condition. It was very interesting to look at the front page of the paper. Sudden Sea The Great Hurricane of 1938 and The Great Hurricane 1938 are both excellent books on the topic.
  14. Do you view Dorian as being a Catch 22 situation? I think the strength of Dorian and the proximity of Dorian to the FL/GA/SC led to the caution. At some point decisions have to be made. I'm sure the decision(s) to evacuate some areas where difficult to make. How long do you think that the elected officials should have waited?
  15. So if Dorian does take a turn to the north, and I post "Looks like Dorian is going to hit the SC coast" ...you assume I want to see a cat 3/4 hit SC???
  16. That is a huge leap to make from still moving west to someone wanting a direct hit on Florida.
  17. Hey did you find that post on your profile????? Ya know the one you said a mod deleted. Easily done!
