  1. Yeah, they do have low density populations, but there's also very little business and industry. Many of those people in the southeastern counties commute to Cincinnati. The same goes for the southern counties along the Ohio which are part of greater metropolitan Louisville.
  2. This is the kind of crap that is showing up on social media. To my Canadian friends, tell me that this is not true. "All schools in Canada are closed for the rest of the school year, each family will receive $950 every two weeks for the next 15 weeks, banks were notify to suspend mortgage payments for at least 6 months, and student loans deferred. Imagine if the United States did this."
  3. That, if true, is a prime example of what will be the downfall of this great country.
  4. I attend a large church which had already started broadcasting the services long before this happened. That's a great ministry for taking care of the high risk elderly. At least you're reaching out. I hope you're right about possibly only a couple of weeks. As Stebo mentioned above, the Detroit area was completely devastated back in '09.
  5. Oh crap, the Big three shutting down? This will have a disastrous economic effect around here
  6. I did the same on Friday. No fever, no respiratory problems. I assume that it's just a head cold. So, I stayed home from work and stayed home all weekend. I am working from home today. Not only would people freak out if they hear me coughing, I don't want to be exposed to something worse when my immune system is already taxed.
  7. My job has been pure bedlam for the past few days, trying to quell the stupid rumors that people have been propagating. I have already made up my mind that when this blows over and someone makes a comment like bolded above, my reply will simply be, "Your welcome."
  8. It's too bad they can't issue polygon warnings like they do for severe weather. After all, why treat winter weather differently? It may not be needed for synoptic snows, but LES is often so geographically specific, it would be warranted. EDIT: I just saw OHweather recommend the same thing in his last sentence. It only makes sense.
  9. A similar situation happened at Benton Harbor is SW MI. They stayed clear and hit -15°. That temp was verified by IWX. Surrounding stations didn't bottom out due to cloud cover.
  10. We have an ordinance that all new mobile homes and modular (prebuilt) homes must have SAME radios installed. However, I suspect that a majority of people never turn them on or turn them off after the first time they hear the "annoying" warning tone.
  11. In 2003, a funnel cloud was spotted north of Hartford City, IN. I was on the south side of town and headed north to try try to intercept the storm as a part of Skywarn/EMA. As I drove through town, not just a few, but dozens and dozens of people were standing outside along the street and on their porches trying to catch a glimpse of the the funnel as the sirens were blaring. The sirens are supposed to warn people to take cover. Instead, I felt like I was in a parade with all of people along the street. We work very hard to save lives and protect property, but sometimes it gets frustrating.
  12. I am currently showing 27 tornado warnings on my GR. Wow.
