I don't think there's much hope of hitting -50, given that temps aloft start warming from here on out, but impressive nonetheless.
The current wind chill is -107F and the all time unofficial record is -105F set in Alaska. So I guess they have this record?

If I recall correctly the 1888 snowstorm did a loop south of Eastern Long Island.
That track makes sense with 21" of snow in NYC and temperatures in the single digits and a rain/snow mix in Boston and 10".
