Interesting fact: The last time BOS and metro west was eclipsed by areas south of us down to Philly and parts of BWI/IAD area was the last time we had a strong Nino-until this season so far. I’ll be very surprised if my area gets a single event >6” from now on this season. Looks like I’ll leave my snowblower with plenty of stabilized gas in the tank. I’ll continue the practice of starting it once a month over the summer and fall.

Yeah you saw one of the best if not the GOAT in 1966 for that area. Pack that deep is rare in Ithaca. The nickel and dime events though were not.
I was a freshman that year-just turned 19 just before the mayhem. I just assumed that was winter in the area. Snow in the air the first week of October, solid event around 11/5. Way below zero many nights. Epic period!

That's it!! Is that the biggest snow you ever witnessed?
Well I witnessed 40+ in the sierras so no but it fell on top of a deep pack which was fortified by 2-3” seemingly daily for weeks before the event. When winters were great….

There was a storm in 1966 I think, it's in the KU book, that had a somewhat similar distribution.
It might be the famous blizzard of 66. I experienced it in upstate NY. Oswego with 100”. My campus got “only” 38.

Well, 6” will do it. Absolute cement for the first 4, too 2 weren’t to bad. Got to use my snowblower I bought in Dec 2020 For only the 3rd time. Chewed right through this stuff like a champ.
Anyways, on some dumpier news, my wife and I are separating, so no idea how much longer I’ll be in this house/area.
Enjoyed this event even with all of its flaws
Sorry about you and your wife separating, Brett. Hang in there.

That’s certainly fair enough.
But sometimes just because one doesn’t see it, doesn’t mean it’s not a viable potential. I realize today didn’t work out for a lot of folks, but the storm that many saw not working out early last week,(in fact a-lot of the same talk was being spoken as right now) has delivered 12-18 for some, and 5-10 for alot of others. So the needle did get threaded, and this was thought of as gravy(if it ever worked out) before this next more visible window that is approaching. So perhaps some of the upcoming next potential, hasn’t completely revealed itself fully just yet… just saying.
True-we'll see in about a week.

No warmth to speak of though….your heading to Florida, so you’ll find it there.
Yup. Warmth, spring baseball, returning late month. I’ve had it with this above normal temperature winter that doesn’t feel warm and every which way to not snow.

I'll buy something when I see the flakes. I'm defeated and looking forward to warmth.

Congrats CT/RI. You got some serious snow!
I woke up a bit past 10 to white rain. About 1/2-1” have accumulated on grass and cars and roofs etc. Everything sinking south now so maybe an inch more? I’m ready for spring and counting the days till my March in Florida trip.

Our pavement is much warmer than up in the hinterlands so I’m concerned it might be a little warm here

Heavy snower for several hours will be great while we have it.

There's going to be an uproar from the public. But schools cancelling 24 hours out have only themselves to blame.

Yeah Euro starts reporting in around 6:45 for the 18Z run. Slight improvement but I was impressed by how little anyone other than the fishes got in terms of qpf. And thermals were pretty bad.

I actually looked at Georgre's NOGAPS (now NAVGEM) and it was pretty juicy up to the pike but very fast.

That was epic in CT/MA. Wasn't that the one with the perpetual RI sucker hole?

I actually got to have dinner with him following a bet one of us won-can't remember who...lol. We were trying to bring in one of the big snows hitting DC during the 2009-10 winter. He kept showing me the nam on his phone but alas it was not to be. I had known him from Scott Simard on ne.weather, Scottne on irc, messenger and then Clinch Leatherwood here (another name too maybe?).
