-52.6 outside my window. I’m not dressed for this should something catastrophic happen.

Lovely day! I enjoy my heat but love the gathering planned in near perfect outdoor wx today. It should be hot Sunday onward for a few days and like the past few weeks, cooldowns are short lived.

Thats why the 1950s were so magical and have not been matched since.
Also, 1944...
And some of us were alive and old enough to remember the 50s.

Something tells me that you will not be a candidate for the "Best Poster of Summer 2025 Award"..
Particularly when heat and hurricanes are kind of a necessary tandem.

Hopefully we get past the hottest part of the year without any brutal temps
Kind of too late I think although the hottest portion of summer is historically ahead of us. I met 2 friends for dinner last Tuesday. I usually walk but after I parked my car in my secret free spot, I started walking and realized it was really dumb to try 3 miles with the temperature over 100 and the sun still blazing. So the Green Line was right there at Coolidge Corner and thankfully the ac was working. I decided to get off at Kenmore and walk the half mile to the restaurant. I noticed there wasn't anyone older than 4 decades younger than me on the street. I walk 5-8 miles every day and I felt the half mile walk. As soon as I walked into the restaurant someone handed me a cold glass of water and a seat at the bar. I walked back to Kenmore after dinner and took the Green Line back to Coolidge Corner and then drove home. I still went out to walk a few miles close to midnight with my wife. Temperatures were still mid 80s even in my hilly leafy neighborhood. Last week was close to as crazy hot as it can get around here.

As long as the temps aren't heat-stroke threats. 59 years ago the 4th was a Monday and the 3-day period below shows the NYC-area highs:
NYC: 100, 103, 98
EWR: 102, 105, 100
LGA: 101, 107, 99
Dews were about 70 so no TD records, just head-cracking heat. That weekend is seared in both of our brains. 1966 and 1975 were all timers particularly since there was less widespread ac. 1995 and more recent hundreds were dramatic but ac was more widespread especially post 2000.

Because I had been using the South Carolina area code (803) since I never bothered to have that changed... Until my mother severely pissed me off yesterday so I went "fuck it"

I get some of the other arguments but I’m trying to figure out how being pissed at your mother is assuaged by a change in area code. By the time cells started to become widely used, I got mine in 2000. Thankfully 617 still had room. I imagine I’ll have that one until the end.

How did that work out today?
Today was as forecast days ago. I’m not sure of the application? Today is post door. Sunday we’re probably prone to burgeoning warmth.

I wouldn’t sell. We seem to be in the pattern of heat over performing for the time being.

Guidance warming and humidifying for the weekend here. Today is pretty comfortable. PTSD from months of occasional misery mist had me worried but now I feel confident of a summer weekend with the risk of showers/storms.

BOS 91 at 11PM. I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen that level of heat around here. I’m at 84 and walking but it’s still damned hot. If I didn’t have ac I’d be heading to a hotel tonight.

July 2025 Obs/Disco ... possible historic month for heat

Every cold mid range falls away to warmth to hot. I’ll be amazed if this summer isn’t top 5 for most of us.
