Tomorrow the Great Blizzard of 1966 was underway.. 30moh winds gusting over 40 produced greatest drifting by far I have ever experienced. Consistent 4-6’ drifts everywhere.

Snow shower approaching Frederick is intensifying.

See if these snow showers can get in. Generally they need to travel from North of Martinsburg to east of the Potomac to effect DC proper.

Pulses from the nw keep resupplying themselves and move se so 1-2 more hours of that and now the snow showers are showing up around Martinsburg and let’s see what they can do

Ma*t . I want to think about the winds tonight. We got over 6” almost everywhere and new 3-4+ of non compacted not wet snow . My memories of good blowers and drifters is 15-20 sustained just won’t quite do it but at 25 magic starts and gusts to 35 causes white out. What did you think and any others who might be versed in this? Thanks

1pm obs and updates 4.25 new. 8-8.5 on snowboard. 7-7.5 in full sunshine yard areas. I cleared walk and put thermometer down on it to get a max radiance temp at prime sun and it was 34.5 0.25” in last hour and 31.7F

It’s a joyous time so I’m going to truth it this one time only. Models have absolutely sucked last three events, underestimating snow Greatly up to 24 hours out in last two events. 32.3F

Pretty hard to believe that3-8 miles away ranges 8-13 and all areas are 97% snow covered and DCA is 22.
