I am in SW Suffolk and Wantagh is the nearest station to my west. They are currently up to 4.52”. This is the heaviest rainfall event in such a short time there since September 2015.

Yea I just realized what you were saying and deleted my post. I am now up to 3 inches. Wantagh is just to my south and had even heavier rain than I did. I rained 1 inch per hour for the past 2 hours. Now it is easing up some.

South Shore coastal sections missed out on the heaviest of the March snows in 2019. So they had two consecutive well below normal snowfall seasons. But they also did much better than the NYC area from 2013 to 2018.

Looking at the previous 6 years before the last 2, we were overdue for what we had the last 2 years.

Anyone noticed an increase in mosquitos? Since late Aug its been an explosion of them here. Not only in parks and yards etc, but I'm getting bit the hell up in the middle of busy streets. The city suppose to be spraying large areas in the bx today, esp south and eastern portions.

Maybe the mild night time temperatures this summer made the mosquito problem worse.

The bar is set pretty low. This was the first time that NYC had two consecutive met winters (DJF) under 5”.

What is also interesting about the last 2 seasons is last season ended up with the 4.8 inches meaning no snow in November or March. 2018-19 ended up with over 20 inches with big totals in November and March.

alot of my area has burned foliage from the tropical storm salt spray.    You have to go  a mile or so inland to see normal green foliage

Yea, and I am some 8 miles from the ocean and we have plenty of burned foliage.

The next 8 days are averaging 79degs., or 7.5 degs. AN.     Or just 2.5degs. AN, if you do not trust the GFS.

Small tropical system near 36N 69W?

Rainout  next week back after L.D. on the GFS.

72*(93%RH) here at 6am, mean dark clouds, streets wet, drizzle.

If the GFS is saying 7.5 degrees above normal for the next 8 days, I don't believe it.

Do you think the worst of the heat is over? I kind of doubt we stay all fall feeling but perhaps we can be more normal.

I think the worst of the heat is over but still there will be 80s. Sunday night some of our colder places could see 40s.

If any if any of your descendants happen by this post, as they return from wintering on the Florida archipelago, they may remember the profound words of Shakespeare “ Many a true word is said in jest”. As always .....

Even though most New Yorkers would love to see that day, I am confident we will have forms of energy that give off no pollution what so ever, long before the 100 years is up. Even if I am wrong, we won't destroy the earth, we might destroy ourselves, but not the earth. Anyway, all the possibilities with the potential  Laura interaction turned out to be not much.  So far here, .11 inch of rain today.
