It’s better to dense rank weather statistics since the actual ranking is based on temperature and not the year. This is how the NWS NY out in Upton ranks their top temperature and precipitation records.

I know this discussion has been made before. I agree it's the 14th highest temperature. I also think when it comes to ranking it still is the 24th highest year. Not really that important, it was a better summer than many recently but just pretty much normal temperature wise.

Einstein was right. It’s all relative. . A 14th warmest summer average temperature at Islip so far feels much cooler than all the top 5 warm recent years.

Was in Long Beach for the overnight storm. Lots of vivid lightning and torrential rain, not much wind. From that and some other showers about 1” yesterday.
My peak gust was 26mph. Seems like the big thing with last night storms was the thunder and lightning. Heavy rain that moved thru fairly quickly and some gusty winds but not anything to severe.
-
Looks like coming week will have near normal temperatures, maybe slightly above.
-
.56 inch of rain last night as the storm went thru.

Down to 65 here last night. Thru the first 1/3 of August, the area is averaging 1-3 degrees below normal.

.35 inch of rain here, 82 high

So far August at Bridgeport, Islip, Kennedy, La Guardia, Newark and Central Park, temperatures are a high of -1.7 at Newark to a low of -3.5 at LaGuardia.

Great westerly breeze today, 81 degree high.
-
Strong southerly breeze all day put a lid on thunderstorm chances here. Have picked up about 2/3 of an inch on the day.

Belle likely would have been a hurricane at landfall on Long Island based on current water temps, keeping all other factors the same. We are loosing our hurricane buffer more and more. This will soon be prime hurricane coastline.
Long Island is so over due for a direct hit, almost 40 years since the last hurricane hit the Island directly.

Upper 50s again last night. Can't ask for better night time temperatures, considering it is the hottest time of the year.

Looks like Central Park will end up at 79 for July average. Today being 85-66. This actually gives the Park a July temperature of 79.048, so I assume they round it off to 79.

The rankings themselves are kind of misleading, because there are a lot of places on there in 5th, 6th position, but all of the higher years are just within the past 10 years. Just 15 years ago, many of those red areas would probably be maroon.
Another thing with rankings (and I don't know how it plays out with these rankings) if a month has, for example, the fifth highest temperature, it could still be out of the top ten warmest months if, for example, 6 months were tied for a higher number turning the 5th highest temperature into the 11 highest month. Having said that, there is no doubt in my mind we see far more above normal months rather than below normal months.

I would say summer in my area has not been bad. Yes July has been warm but June was comfortable. August will tell the tale.
