Would be fairly unusual to get 850 mb temps below 0C that far south at this time of year.  A week out so ample opportunity to modify in the coming days... we'll see.

Been loving the lack of heat. Hopefully we can keep this going through summer.

Wisconsin’s weather is just horrible. Even worse if you live next to Lake Michigan. I guess some people like miserable weather though.

Well, if you like sunny days in the winter it's better than Michigan.

If you like snow, Wisconsin is mostly reliant on system snow, except the very northern 1/5th of the state.

Summer-like, 80-degree weather typically arrives at the beginning of May.

But this year, it has decided to make a late grand entrance, potentially for the first time in 20 years.

May 17, 1999, was the last time southeast Michiganders experienced 80-degree weather this late in the spring.

June 17, 1924, is the latest date on record for 80-degree weather to arrive in metro Detroit, according to the National Weather Service in White Lake.

  4. Is there a way to lookup how much wind my area has averaged over a set time period and how that compares to normal.

Weather is really important to my company and it seems like the last month has been an absolute wind-fest compared to normal. We can't go more than 2 days without extreme wind recently.

I guess there's a first for everything. :lmao:

The relative lack of activity in this thread speaks for itself, lol.

My winter interests are -- big storms or nothing at all, with Christmas being the exception. My primary winter interest is always going to be for snow to my NW. I just can't do much with it locally.

Jonger is lucky they didn't name names. Not like they would need to in an area like the UP. Even people downstate will know what happened..I'd be mortified.

I told them to name the two guys who helped... they didn't even ask if we wanted to be named, the mine EMS said we would be "the 2 snowmobilers". The only part that's a bit exaggerated was the part where it said I collapsed.... the rest was pretty spot on.

Wow. Jonger...I'm guessing you feel embarassed enough for people not to hound you, lol. But then again...you'd be forgiven for not taking the storm as serious as they said given that they say every storm up here is ove the top lately and ends up being just a nice dump of fluff.

Nah... I'm not really embarrassed. I knew I'd catch some flak though. It happened, I figured people would be interested to hear about it. Especially in a weather community since it's very weather centric.

What the hell. Jeez. Glad you're ok...but what the heck were you doing out in that storm...or were you out before it really got going?

It was actually mild when we set off. I knew the temp was going to drop, but didn't anticipate the drifting at that level. The snowflakes break up and traction is tough... a 137 with 1.25 lugs wasn't going to do the job.

    If I only had snowshoes!

  9. Myself and one other were rescued Sunday night in the Huron mountains. There will be a news story on the situation soon. Put it this way.... 60 mph winds, 2 stuck snowmobiles and 15 miles from anything except the Eagle Mine.

Snow was 6 feet deep with 10 foot drifts.

We both had hypothermia.... I started accepting we were going to freeze to death.

Thanks to Allen and Ryan from the Eagle Mining company for saving our asses.

Word has it that the EPS has a pretty strong -EPO in the long range. If so, it could be a decent pattern in the Midwest.

Just need to get through this disaster over the next few days. 3 weeks of decent winter weather gets completely wiped out in 2 days...unfortunately it’s par for the course in our horrible climo south of 45N.

Yup. I hate living this far south.

The lake really ruins low temps.... but that LES makes up for it.

I'm in Baldwin right now at a pizza joint.... about to gear up for the 75 mile ride to the truck on my sled. I'm sick in the head.

Yea going to bust pretty bad here too with the synoptic portion, just not enough moisture to work with, have better odds with LES after this system. Might get to 5-6" for my area.

Probably heading up to Kalkaska on Wednesday... Looks like that area on Mancelona have quite a bit already.
