  3. Updated today, some positive news.. The target of bringing down the reproductive number (R0) to 1 has been reached. Now the goal is to bring it below 1. This value represents the average number of people to which a single infected person will transmit the virus. An epidemic with a reproductive number below 1 will gradually disappear [source] [source
  4. How contagious is the Wuhan Coronavirus? (Ro) The attack rate or transmissibility (how rapidly the disease spreads) of a virus is indicated by its reproductive number (Ro, pronounced R-nought or r-zero), which represents the average number of people to which a single infected person will transmit the virus. WHO's estimated (on Jan. 23) Ro to be between 1.4 and 2.5. [13] Other studies have estimated a Ro between 3.6 and 4.0, and between 2.24 to 3.58. [23]. Preliminary studies had estimated Ro to be between 1.5 and 3.5. [5][6][7] An outbreak with a reproductive number of below 1 will gradually disappear. For comparison, the Ro for the common flu is 1.3 and for SARS it was 2.0.
  5. On Friday, the F.D.A. issued an emergency use authorization for KN95 masks. Regulated by the Chinese government, they are almost identical in performance to N95 masks. There are slight differences in their specifications, like a variation in the maximum pressure the masks must be able to withstand as a person inhales and exhales. The C.D.C. lists KN95 masks as a suitable alternative when N95s are not available.
  6. Nice to see this at least, just in case it is needed..As of right now it shouldn't be.
  7. What a joke lol $37 late fee because I missed the cutoff for the day by a few minutes lol Yet I'm allowed to be 16 days late on my mortgage payment without penalty from the same bank..
  8. NFL draft still going on schedule. EA Sports said, through NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, that it will create a virtual meeting on stage with Goodell for each prospect as they’re drafted. Rapoport added that players are being asked to tell EA Sports how they want to interact with Goodell on stage. Bro hugs, bear hugs, the Christian Wilkins shoulder bump, special handshake ... it seems anything could be possible.
  9. I guess he missed this photo lol And article from the NY times.. A tractor-trailer emblazoned with the New England NFL squad’s name rolled into enemy territory Friday on a mission of mercy, as it pulled up to the Javits Center to drop off a huge supply of N95 respirator masks that were purchased from China by the franchise’s owner. “We’re all in this together. Headed to New York with hope, love and 300,000 masks for healthcare workers,” the Patriots wrote on their official Instagram page.
  10. Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker on Friday announced the state is setting up a tracing collaborative to better track down people who may have been exposed to COVID-19 — the first state to launch such a project in the U.S. When a person tests positive, public health officials ask the patient about who they came in contact with and reach out to those people. But the tracing collaborative involves a more formal infrastructure to track down people who may have been exposed to the coronavirus, Baker said. As a reminder, there is tracing happening now, but this program we’re talking about launching today is a much more robust, targeted approach that we hope can be highly effective at slowing the spread,” the Republican said. The collaborative was launched with help from Partners in Health, a nonprofit in Boston. The nonprofit will be expected the logistical and organizational functions, Baker said. The collaboration will also have a virtual call center with up to 1,000 “virtual contact tracers." Baker said people have already agreed to sign up to work the call center.

(WSYR-TV) — People who shopped at the Kinney’s Pharmacy at 3873 Rome Road in Pulaski on March 26 after 9 a.m. may have been exposed to COVID-19. The Oswego County Health Department reported Friday that anyone who was in the store on that date should watch for symptoms that include fever, shortness of breath, or gastrointestinal illness until April 9. Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang says the agency has reached out to notify all known contacts of the infected individual. People who experience symptoms should contact their health care provider by phone or call the department’s COVID-19 Hotline at 315-349-3330. The department urges you not to go to a hospital emergency room unless you are experiencing life-threatening symptoms. “The location was made public because our investigation shows there is a possibility of exposure to members of the public. We must balance public safety with protecting the privacy of infected individuals who have done nothing wrong,” said Legislature Chairman James Weatherup. “This is consistent with our policy of notifying the public when investigations of positive cases determine there is a possibility that others may have become infected, and this is consistent with procedures followed by our neighboring counties.” “Our thoughts are with our associate, and we are doing everything we can to protect all of our employees and customers. We have been cleaning and sanitizing our stores according to CDC guidelines. We are in close contact with the Oswego County Health Department and continue to follow their guidance and all guidance of the CDC,” said Judith R. Cowden, spokesperson for Kinney Drug.
  14. Over 90% of confirmed cases come from NYC, LI and Downstate NY..
  15. Stimulus checks start to go out next week.. The Internal Revenue Service plans to send electronic payments as soon as late next week to millions of Americans as part of the $2 trillion coronavirus law, a week sooner than expected, according to a plan circulated internally on Thursday. However, $30 million in paper checks for millions of other Americans won’t start being sent out until April 24, as the government lacks their banking information. And some of those checks won’t reach people until September, the document shows, underscoring the reality that many Americans could have to wait five months to receive their checks.
  16. If Oswego county continues the pace (give or take) it's on, we would see an estimated 75-100 people infected by the time we reach the"Apex", out of a population of 111,000.. Lewis county currently has 2 out of nearly 30k.. Jefferson 15 out of 115k.. Obviously if u live away from any"bigger" city you have much less chance to contract the illness.. Currently 26 upstate counties have less than 20 infected...
  17. WASHINGTON — The Trump administration is close to recommending that all Americans wear cloth masks if they go out in public, a change in position that reflects new concerns that the coronavirus is being spread by infected people who have no symptoms and new data suggesting the United States is not yet slowing the rate of infections. At a White House briefing Thursday evening, both President Trump and Vice President Pence said that new guidance on masks would be issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the coming days. But the comments of both Mr. Trump and a top official on the administration’s coronavirus response task force during the session suggested that the issue hasn’t been entirely resolved within the administration. “If people want to wear them, they can,” President Trump said, declaring that while the administration was “coming out with regulations” on mask wearing soon, whether to follow them was a personal choice. During the same briefing, Dr. Birx suggested that despite all the harsh measures such as stay-at-home orders and business closures, the U.S. is not yet flattening the spike in new infections. We’re only as strong is every community, every county, every state, every American following the guidelines to a tee,” she said. “And I can tell by the curve, and as it is today that not every American is following it. And so this is really a call to action.” Her caveats on masks reflect what has been a common view among many public health bodies about the effectiveness of masks for the general public. Until now, the C.D.C., like the World Health Organization, has advised that ordinary people don’t need to wear masks unless they are sick and coughing. Part of the reason has been to preserve medical-grade masks, including N95 respirator masks, for health care workers who desperately need them at a time when they are in continuously short supply. Still, as the coronavirus devastates the United States, the C.D.C. has been drafting new guidelines recommending that everyone wear face coverings in public settings, like pharmacies and grocery stores, to avoid unwittingly spreading the virus, according to a federal official.
  18. N95 mask are hard to come by but the KN95 are not.. CDC says they offer the same protection but it's not FDA approved..It's the"Chinese" version of the N95 which is funny because those are made in China to lol
  19. If everyone wore a mask or face covering this virus would dwindle down much quicker, it seems that could be in the cards, at least recommended.. 80% is better than 0% and these aren't even the good mask... Granted we have a shortage of the n95.. Scientists are not completely sure of all the ways that the Covid-19 virus is transmitted, but in a randomized control trial, participants who were told to use a surgical mask, and did so, were 80 percent less likely to contract respiratory illness.
