  1. Merry Christmas to all my fellow weenies...Have a joyful time...
  2. Yes agree...Of course newspapers are the worst place to get a weather forecast because they're printed well before you read them. I've always found that papers are terrible with any type of science coverage especially weather.
  3. The forecasts for the most part have been fine...its the ineptitude of government that's the problem.
  4. My wife is Filipina so of course she was used to warm weather...she's been here 20 years now so she's pretty much acclimated. She enjoys the weather and my fascination with it...loves to hear my weather stories. She's the best.
  5. Wish people would stop using the term "non event" for every storm that doesn't give significant snows for certain areas. I'm picky as I get older.
  6. I didn't know about the story of Stephan Baltz...Wow so sad...I was 11 months old when that accident occured.
  7. I'd hardly call it "horrible"....Sure we'd like more snow, but from an excitement and forecasting viewpoint...I think its pretty good
  8. Wow the early stuff...Had the aneroid barometer...not too good as you mentioned, remember always tapping it? Had a mercury min/max thermo..it had these little markers inside the glass that would stay at the highest and lowest readings..push a button to reset. It had a 6 ft cable which you put out the window. I've had a lot of equipment...Much of it I still have sitting in the basement...looks like a weather museum. First digital unit was a heathkit thermometer...remember those?
  9. My first weather equipment and first written observations started at around 10 years of age, maybe earlier. I'm now close to 60.
  10. Alan Kasper is an idol to a lot of us older folks...I learned a lot growing up listening to him.
  11. Long time ago, don't remember lol.
  12. Ok I checked my records...that storm was on the 5th-6th...i had 0.52" of precip and 4" of snow for the event, here on SI.
  13. If I recall correctly, the March 2001 storm wasn't a rain bust but a too far East development for snow bust...at least for more western locations. I remember listening to one of the accuwx mets saying how the storm would be moving west closer to the coast...and I kept looking at radar saying no it wont.
  14. One specific storm I remember from a young age was tropical storm Doria in 1971...I remember the flooding on the side of our house where my rain gage was...So I've been at this weather observing thing for a long time.
  15. My hottest was 100° in 2010 and lowest 51° in 1986.
  16. I noticed you started this thread 8 years ago....That's heat dedication
  17. Keep in mind that noaa hasn't predicted a below normal winter in the NE in a long time...I believe it's something like 10 to 15 years? At my station, going back 18 years it's split evenly between above and below normal winters as are the last 10 years. The last three winters have averaged above however. Lot of cold Marches lately, if you want to extend things.
  18. 23.... 90°+ days here so far.
  19. 20 90+ days here so far this season...that's about normal for the entire season...looks like a couple more in the near term before we cool down.
  20. Added another 90° day here yesterday, and 89 on Thursday.
  21. Four 90+ days this month and ten for the season.
  22. He also overplayed the warm ground, colder surfaces only angle...as did others.
  23. Don't recall seeing one of our favorite tv mets mentioned here much this winter but here is Nick's forecast:
