That last wave coming in late Tomorrow looks good for the southern mtns. By Saturday the smokies will probably have a foot of snow on the ground.

My guess is probably not enough population living above 3,500 feet and would only cause confusion to the majority that live below that mark.
That still doesn't make sense. Most people in wnc outside of Asheville work in another town. And to get to another town you usually need to travel over 3500'.

Wow still can't believe the WNC Mountains haven't seen a couple of decent snows. Don't think I've ever seen weather like this in my 68 years here. Don't think a year has ever been this bad.
People only remember the good years. 11-12 was a bad year 08-09 was the worst I can remember! There was a few other bad winters in the early 2000's as well as the 90's.

Interesting. Definitely supports comments made yesterday in this thread and some off-and-on discussions in the sub-forum.
That's what I'm looking for. We can overcome a -pna with a strong -nao. See December 2010 and January 11 for example. That was a nina following a moderate nino winter.

Atleast we got another failure to track!
You won't have to worry about temps with that one

Thank you. Shouldn’t let people get to me, but at times it happens.Don't sweat them. You made a great call from 5 days out, pointing out the potential long before most mets and even the models showed much of anything. Above 3500' your call was good in Macon county. Below that we couldn't get below freezing. We would have easily had 6" if all of what fell could have accumulated. Please keep sharing your thoughts!

Really liking the setup for Thursday, we have done ok in these type of overrunning events here in WNC. Think back to early Dec of 2017.
Models tend to under-do that northern periphery of moisture and its extent.
Gotta give you props.
Even tho we didn't get the accumulations expected with the meager rates and above freezing temps. This was still a great call when models were showing close to nothing. Great pattern recognition!

Haven't actually measured here, but looks close to a half inch. A little disappointing, but expectations were low, and with this winter...anything is nice. I'm just glad it finally stuck enough to get the trees/ground white. My seed order came in the mail, so I'm planning for the vegetable garden this weekend...I figure once I start doing that, we'll end up with the late season cold snap.
Hope everyone enjoyed what they got!Was hoping to get enough to try out the new tube but unfortunately we did not.

Dang I thought you would get closer to 5 or 6..
Guy I work with lives in Highlands says they have 5 inches there. Makes sense as they had the best qpf and temps below freezing.

Just pulled an HRRR sounding for 4pm right around Greenville and it shows a very shallow warm layer at the surface and a warm nose that's maybe +0.5 C deg at 800mb
Hard to believe there is an 800mb warm nose with such a meager system. Usually only see that with amped up golf lows.

We got really good rates for about 2 hours and got about an inch on cars and elevated surfaces. Temps and rates just didn't cooperate. Probably would have been at 6 inches easily if we would have been below freezing. Oh well, on to the next one...

Pretty good bust as far as the models go in the SW mountains..I drove through Cherokee , Clay, Graham, and Swain Counties..saw maybe a 1/8" above 3000 ft..got to give credit to GSP for keeping this toned down pretty well..back edge has made it to Chattanooga..winding down soon
I think what went wrong was we had a due west to east orientation of moisture. A true sw to NE flow would have been better. Then then mtns could have enhanced the totals.

Radar is blossoming out in western Tennessee. That should take on a more west to east orientation today.
