  1. Time lapse is rolling. Enjoying the final hour of electricity. Looks like a good shot at 70mph+ winds by 2pm. Very impressive and scary wind reports all along the I-80/highway 30 corridor.
  2. Des Moines just officially gusted to 75mph at DSM.
  3. Yeah that was a great call to be sure.
  4. The discussion on that MD was top notch. Saving that one. Very impressive rear-inflow jet already at nearly 100kts.
  5. Carroll Iowa AWOS gusted to 74mph shortly after 10am. Pretty impressive.
  6. Nice wake low on back side of the MCS. Sioux City has northeast winds gusting to 53mph. EDIT: Looks like they hit 55mph shortly after 9:30am.
  7. 89 at MLI and here today. Still no 90 degree days for Aug for MLI/here. MLI has 17 90 degree days for the year, with 13 of those occurring in July.
  8. The summer of never-ending 10kt 500mb flow. All in all will be a forgettable summer weather-wise. Wasn't terrible, wasn't great. A decent amount of 90s, but lame in big heat. 94 the hottest temp of the summer at MLI which is pretty meh. Still some time to beat that, but summer is going fast.
  9. For here I guess it'd be the 50mph winds the evening of 7/11, the night MLI gusted to 80mph. Seems like nocturnal MCS are non-existent this season. Most action has been from pulse type stuff back in parts of June and July.
  10. Nice day today. Dews back in the 70s this weekend. Could go for a good thunderstorm, it's been awhile.
  11. 46 at Rochelle, and 45 for Aurora for low temps (on the hour at least).
  12. Down to 49 already at Rochelle. 53 here. Dewpoint dipped into the upper 40s this afternoon for awhile.
  13. Already down to 46 at Hampton Iowa as of midnight. Black River Falls at 42. A fantastic taste of fall is a breath of relief from the stagnant summer stank. Fresh cool/dry air pouring in through the open windows tonight will make for some great sleeping conditions.
  14. Yeah this is making me look forward to fall. The look of the sky, the air, and even the smell is different today. Only 69 for a high here so far.
  15. Could see dews dip into the 40s tomorrow or Wednesday. That's pretty tough to do this time of the year with crops in full swing. Top notch weather for sure.
  16. Picked up 0.26" from a passing thundershower around midday.
  17. Geez. What state's Kitchener in? Never heard of it lol.
  18. This little feature persisted for a good 10 minutes to the southeast of work an hour ago or so underneath a light rain shower. When it started to dissipate it looked like it roped out. Pretty sure this was a funnel.
  19. Sorry to beat a dead horse with this, but as a weather enthusiast this is just flat out amazing to me. It's only mid-morning there local time, and the heat index is already up to 151 at Bandar Iran with a temp/dew of 99/91. Several other locations with dews in the upper 80s/low 90s in the region lends credence to the obs legitimacy. A short ways to the west at Abadan the dew is substantially lower at 54, where the wind is blowing off shore. Needless to say if you lived in that area you'd be constantly praying for the wind to blow off shore as opposed to on shore lol. On a side note, Kuwait City is already at 109 actual temp as of their 8am ob lol. What an interesting region of weather. EDIT: There were 6 locations with dews between 90-91 at the 04z ob, the obs below are from 05z (which has 4 90+ dew obs). EDIT2: Kuwait City actual temp 115 at 9am. Click image for larger picture.
  20. A brief but very heavy shower dropped 0.23" late this morning. That brings us to 3.98" for July.
  21. Iowa does it again. A tornado has been reported out southwest of Cedar Rapids a short while ago.
  22. 90 at MLI and here today. Some nice towers billowing up in the northern sky atm.
