As I said yesterday this was going to be an interesting storm to watch unfold. I would love to see the soundings this afternoon into tonight after we flipped to sleet. I bet the above freezing layer in the atmosphere was not very deep. Just makes you wonder how much snow we would have had if it would have stayed all snow for another 6 hours. For a while around noon it was snowing the hardest here as it has all winter.

If we could only hold onto this snowfall rate until 3 we would be over 6 inches easily. Unfortunately it looks like the taint line is advancing pretty rapidly. It’s crazy because I’m only 16 degrees at the surface.

Wow!! I can’t even see across my development right now, that has to be less than 500 ft.

Visibility is about 1/8 mile here. Let’s hold onto this as long as we can.

I hope this can last through the afternoon but I get nervous when I see the taint line already through Elmira and Dansville and approaching Rochester. NAM has us switching about 3 PM.

Flake size has definitely increased. It actually looks like a snowstorm out there!

I’m surprised the airport (Ksyr) is only reporting 1/2 mile visibility. It’s definitely less here, snow has to be falling at an inch per hour.

It’s getting pretty nasty outside. Heavy snow and gusty winds, the temperature has fallen to 15.

Snow is probably falling moderately now. Not the greatest of flake size but bett than is was. Temperature is still 17.

Snow is picking up in intensity but still lousy flake size. Deeper moisture is moving in from the south.
