  1. No matter the QPF these models spit out the “official “ forecasts are going to be for 3-6 inches and they will probably verify. Edit: I hope I’m wrong!
  2. ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM TUESDAY TO 5 AM EST WEDNESDAY... * WHAT...Snow and mixed precipitation expected. * WHERE...Southern Cayuga, Onondaga, Cortland, Chenango, Delaware and Sullivan counties. * WHEN...From 9 AM Tuesday to 5 AM EST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the evening commute. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A band of steady light snow will lift across the region Tuesday morning, and will stall out along or just north of the New York State Thruway in the early afternoon. Further to south, snow will mix with or change to freezing rain or freezing drizzle, with precipitation becoming spotty in coverage. Total snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches will be common, with 3 to 5 inches north of the Thruway and in a few spots in the Catskills. Ice accumulations will generally be around one tenth of an inch, with localized areas of up to a quarter of an inch.
  3. I bet local Mets in Syracuse will forecast 3-5 maybe 3-6.
  4. We are in the coldest part of winter climatology speaking so it doesn’t take much to get us above normal. Also, with a lot of cloud cover nighttime lows should be well above normal while daytime highs could be near to slightly above normal.
  5. It’s a beautiful mid winter morning. The temperature plummeted in the pre dawn hours bottoming out at -3 here on the east side of Brewerton. It’s already recovered close to 20 degrees. I’m not expecting a lot from Tuesday’s event but a couple of inches would be nice to keep the snowpack fresh.
  6. The only problem with that storm is I’m scheduled to travel 60 miles to Utica to get my Covid vaccination on February 5. I don’t want to miss that.
  7. The sun has broken through the clouds here. Temperature is 19 degrees. It looks like the jackpot was northwestern Onondaga County down through Marcellus and Skaneateles. They probably picked up some impressive amounts in the hills south of Syracuse.
  8. Wow, good for you, you were due! Maybe the jinx has been broken like the Red Sox in 2004.
  9. Measured 6.0 inches here on 0.26 inch of LE. It was nice to have a lake effect event that spread the wealth around in central New York.
  10. The snow has let up considerably in the last 10 minutes. It looks like I’ll be in lighter snows for a little while but the band appears to be slowly settling southward.
  11. Same thing here. It’s weather like this that makes this crappy winter bearable.
  12. It started snowing here again still have that squall that’s over you, Freak, to get through.
  13. The heavy snow just moved out of here. I got just about 2 inches in the last hour. The band looks to be setting up in the Parish to Mexico area.
  14. A band is starting to organize off the southeast end of the lake. It’s snowing heavily here right now with big flakes. The temperature has fallen to 31, it had hit 38 this morning.
  15. OT - I grew up in Little Falls and my father used to take me to Caroga Lake to the amusement park there when I was a kid. Also, my older sister would take us to Pine Lake to swim which is pretty close to Caroga Lake.
  16. I feel like we’re in April already, snow at 35 degrees that melts as soon as it stops falling.
  17. At 8 AM I measured 3.9 inches of snow and 0.18 of liquid. That gives a ratio of roughly 20:1. The snow looks to be just about over but probably enough fell in the last 45 minutes to put us over 4 inches for the event.
  18. My fake snow from 12/29 has melted/compacted down to 2-3 inches. This 4 inches overnight is a nice freshening of the snow cover.
  19. Carol just reported hitting 100 inches for the season on Twitter. It looks like she got at least 13 inches from this event.
  20. Good for you. Remember, good things come to those who wait..
  21. Getting in some heavy snow here as the band sinks south. I just got up so no official measurement yet but eyeballing there looks to be 3-4 inches on my deck.
  22. I’m with Syrmax, got another dusting and snowing at a dusting/hr. rate right now.
  23. The snow squall that passed through here about 3:30 moving off to the east. Tonight is 3 weeks since the lake effect event dropped 13 inches here. We’ve been able to maintain a snow cover continuously since then which is pretty good for this winter.
