These are in no particular order:
1. Feb 3rd-11th, 2018: What an awesome week. 9 consecutive days with measurable snowfall, with a nice storm to end it.
2. GHD II- What else needs to be said. One of those rare storms where each model run kept ramping it up until the event, and then the storm delivered.
3. March 5th, 2013 - Had the perfect position in the pivot point. Expecting 5-6" and got hit with over 10"
4. GHD I- The storm that sucked me in. I had always dabbled in weather, but found this board about 5 days prior to the blizzard. And here I remain.
5. (tie) - Christmas "surprise" of 2009- Got 10" of the fluffiest snow imaginable. If I recall correctly, ratios were 30:1+
5. (tie) - December 1st 2006 Blizzard- School was cancelled, we took a sled to the liquor store to bring back a few kegs. Good times.

Hard to get a storm to please everybody.
Yep, in general if we are looking for that big boy snowstorm, someone has to be on the warm side. (And get all the s***t)

Going to shoot to get some late season golf in with the “zzzzz’s” forecast next week

This blows the Charley video out of the water. (No pun intended). Hands down the worst eyewall footage I’ve ever seen.
The storm surge alone is insane.

Flipped from graupel to moderate snow

Heavy graupel and some nice gusts as these squalls work through.

Thanks! I've traveled quite a bit and Iceland is at the top of the list. Nothing really comes close to how much natural nature there is in that country.
If you haven't made it to New Zealand, add that one to the list. Trust me.

On the extreme northern edge of a somewhat larger (but still small) deficit area. Been a lot of bad luck with storms dying as they approach and splitting around mby.
Just pulled the data, only .96” of rain in the last 30 days in my back yard.
And at 10:1, that gives Madison what, 14 feet of snow??
Thats insane though. Luckily the heart of the metro got spared.

Wow. That's really spotty. Is it just your specific location or are you on the edge of a larger deficit area?

Any drought concerns are null and void here now. 2.86" yesterday/last night and 7.09" since 7/31 and it is currently raining.
Picked up another .01”, for a total of .14”.
Drought concerns will intensify, however they seem to be very local. Areas 8-10 miles north have been quite wet with lush yards. A rental property I own in Sycamore has been mowed twice in the past week, yet I haven’t had to mow my own yard here just south of Dekalb in over 4 weeks.

Crushing it with .13” from this storm system so far....

Elko, NV too. There are other surprises there tho, low numbers in Texas. 0 in Wilmington NC. 88 in Shreveport is crazy going in the other direction.
Would certainly expect more in OK as well.
What a turd of a season

Was speaking with a buddy of mine who is a farmer. He was saying that most of the guys with corn in are real concerned that with how wet it has been, the corn hasn’t had to “dig down” to find moisture. This leads to a much shallower root structure, increasing the susceptibility to blow downs with summertime storms. Already had some corn blown down around here from yesterday’s storms, along with a good amount of tree damage to the golf course in sycamore. A good derecho/severe wind event would cause havoc with how waterlogged everything is.

On mobile so the link may not work, but here’s a video from the Rantoul tornado from ILX’s warning:

I can’t determine if the cameraman is simply really close to the tornado, or is a terrible photographer

I was looking about 10 minutes ago and noticed some rotation on that cell.
I was going to head over to Elburn area earlier, but it’s my daughters 2nd birthday so I stayed put. Photos on Facebook are showing a nice funnel from over there earlier.

Confirmed tornado bear Manhattan.

Funnel reported near maple park earlier

Had a nice garden variety blow through (while I was outside on a call).... Nice wind and torrential rain.
Good by this years standard.

The boundary has surged out 10-15 miles ahead of the storms in northeast IL, so whatever severe threat there was looks even less now.
Yep, Rockford metro is getting absolutely pounded with heavy rain however

The sounds coming out of those forests are truly ghastly. And this storm has a long history of completely stripping trees of their leaves.
The sound in the video below is terrifying, it sounds like some huge monster exhaling through its teeth.
Leaves stripped from the palm trees in that video. As a Midwesterner, I am not certain what wind speed they usually can withstand?
