  1. We had a great night's sleep under our big down comforter. 43F when I woke up. No, I am not re-starting the pellet stove. I did the big tear down and clean up last weekend. It is not going back on until the fall....I don't care if anyone's lips are turning blue tomorrow morning!
  2. From now through Monday looks like weather we would hope for on a *perfect* Columbus Day weekend.......highs upper 50's to around 60 and crisp nights. I'll take it!
  3. Spectacular day here. when was that last snowstorm......2 or 3 weeks ago?
  4. What's the correlation between AO state and temperatures in upstate NY in June? Second, "troughing and more seasonable temperatures" for June doesn't sound as horrible as you make it out to be.
  5. Yep that's been my experience here as well. We are now at almost 3 weeks without a new case diagnosis here (Otsego County). I wear a mask as a courtesy to others when I'm out and about, not because I fear corona especially when I'm outdoors. An enclosed space like a Gym with potentially lots of people, heavy breathing, sweating and touching the same equipment......I'm not sure how I feel about that. I'm not a Gym person but the sports I do participate in, there's no way to wear a mask and still be able to breathe. Makes me a little more nervous.
  6. So for discussions sake: Let's say there were no formal government rules regarding re-opening the Gym. What measures would you want in place to make you feel comfortable being there? Masks? Distancing? Temperature check at the front door? Wipe downs on the equipment between users?
  7. Plus the timing happened to be terrible for hockey. So you resume some sort of abbreviated season end or playoffs now, in a couple of cities, with no fans present. Right now the players are back at home so to even do that you have to reassemble the teams and start practicing and getting back in shape all over again before you can even play. Who is going to watch that? I'm a Sabres fan, used to disappointment with my team but I would still watch the playoffs every year. This year I have zero interest in hockey. It ended 2 months ago.
  8. Yeah there’s no way this works for the NHL. They need the gate. The NFL contracts for TV and merchandising are so lucrative that they could make it work. Not that they will be happy with the revenue hit either but they can make it work. I don’t know much about baseball.
  9. We went out for ice cream on Sunday with another family. The outdoor seating was closed so everyone was hanging out by their cars. None of us in our group (2 families, total 10 people) was wearing a mask. A few people in other groups were but maybe 10% of all the customers. We haven't had a new case diagnosed in our county in almost 3 weeks. Plus we were outside in the sun on a breezy day. I think there was very little risk of anything happening in that setting. I agree with Delta, we have to get back to life starting with baby steps like going out for ice cream or hanging out in people's yards.
  10. Rather pedestrian brief storm here despite impressive radar signatures.
  11. Keeping a wary eye on that situation. We have had horrible flooding here in the past from these PRE systems. The ground is already saturated and lakes and rivers are up high.
  12. About 1/2 inch on the ground, 25F when I headed off for work on my bicycle. Stunningly beautiful sunrise over the snow covered ground and trees. But yeah.....May 13, no bueno.
  13. Currently with a breezy snow shower rolling through:
  14. I see decent banding setting up overhead on the radar. Should snow steadily here for the next couple of hours. Maybe we will get 2 inches on elevated surfaces? I'm more excited about the squall potential tomorrow.. My kids have never experienced thunder snow.
  15. Eric I figured that had to be coming your way. We started as snow here in Otsego around 1700. Still snowing, it's all stuck to the trees so it's quite beautiful.
  16. Dr. Google says lots of things....but the symptoms you are describing are worrisome. I hope you feel better soon.
  17. Wolfie I would be asking more questions about your diagnosis. Strictly speaking, gastritis shouldn't be causing the respiratory symptoms you are having. I hope you have a primary care Doctor/Nurse you can follow up with. Feel better.
  18. Great disco from BGM: Forecasting Spring snow storms is always a challenge in March and April, so doing it in May doesn`t make it any easier. Seeing the new 12Z Euro come in as I write this, doesn`t give a warm fuzzy feeling either. Shot of polar air (Yes, Polar Vortex) drops out of Ontario Friday as surface low pushes eastward across Ohio Valley and into Southern PA Friday afternoon/evening. As the two meet, low pressure will start to rapidly deepen, but where exactly this occurs and where the deepening surface low tracks will determine who sees what, and how much. As mentioned, 12Z Euro is the most aggressive guidance at this time, with strong frontogenetical forcing/deformation band developing NW of the surface low. A band of heavy precipitation (likely heavy snow) will develop Friday evening. NAM and GFS are a bit further south than the Euro, but still have some accumulating snow into the Southern Tier, NE PA and into the Catskills...with higher elevations doing the best as far as snowfall. For now, have played it fairly conservative with the snowfall forecast, but based on the trends in the model guidance, have definitely bumped up totals from previous forecasts, with 1" to 3" likely across higher elevations and less than an inch in the valleys. As the surface low exits early Saturday morning, cold air advection really gets cranking as upper trough/low settles into Central NY. Cold northwest flow will keep high temperatures only in the upper 30s to maybe lower 40s. Forecast soundings show very steep lapse rates (8C/km) from the surface all the way to 500 mb. With about 200 J/kg of SB CAPE, even considered putting in thunder with the snow squalls that will be possible (this is May 9th). Not expecting much in the way of accumulation on Saturday, but short intense bursts of snow will be possible through the day, with rates intense enough to accumulate while snowing, but melting quickly after any snow shower ends. This will likely be a situation where surface temperatures are 36 to 42 F and it is still able to snow due to the very cold air aloft and the low sfc dew points (around 20F) allowing for efficient wet- bulbing.
  19. I'm from upstate NY and to all of you I say...... Please steal our snow!
  20. Our CocoRahs site close to my home has 93 inches. Didn't "feel" like that good of a winter for me. That includes 16 inches in April, so true winter was under 80 inches.
  21. Our best snow pack was in November. We went sledding at a friends house, and also did some XC skiing around that time. The rest of the winter was hit and miss. I judge mainly by snowpack because we are into nordic skiing. January sucked. February was barely passing. Decent amount of skiing but felt like we were always short just a few inches to make it really good. March sucked. April was a horror show. Cold, damp, multiple snowfalls but what are they good for at that point? And May 10-20F below normal, No thanks!
  22. I hear you and I'm sorry I came across that way to you. I can assure you I'm no liberal. There's only one picture in my office at work that isn't of my family. It's Ronald Reagan. I'd describe myself as a never-Trump conservative. Unsubstantiated attacks from both side of the political aisle deserve to be scrutinized, no matter which side you are standing on yourself.
  23. Fair enough, but being liked has never been a priority for me. But lighten up a little. You post lots of good information and thoughtful analysis. That post last night sounded like the unhinged content straight from the Hannity show. Wondering where it came from?
