    It's an interesting debate, for sure. We are a family of 5, and we typically downhill ski 8 or 10 days a year in a good year. Plattekill is our favorite local place. My wife and I nordic ski 3 or 4 days a week. Our kids are 10 and 12, We usually get them a season ski rental for their downhill gear. This year after looking at the downhill situation we elected not to get the kids ski rentals. I don't envision us going more than once or twice.

    That last round certainly over performed up here. Trees down all over the place, many people without power for 24 hours. I've never seen so many local road closures and utility crews all over the place in such a small area.

    We had a leaf blizzard here during that storm. Trees are down to 1/3 foliage now. It's going to be the earliest we have wrapped up leaf cleaning in the 20 years we have been here. Usually we are just starting now.

    No doubt he’s feeling really good all loaded up with steroids. Let’s see how the next week goes. I’d say there’s a 50% chance he is re-admitted to the hospital.

    I'd advance central NY near Cooperstown to past peak on that map. We had spectacular colors over the weekend. The rain has brought down at least 50% of those colorful leaves and the remainder are getting dull quickly.

    Well done. I packed it in after 35 minutes. If anyone needs evidence of what a country in major decline looks like, show them that debate.

    There's not much holding the leaves on here. We are changing colors by the day and with almost no rain the last 2 weeks they are going to come down quickly in wind and rain I think. Could be a very compressed foliage season.

    62F inside, 38F outside but no way am I turning on the heat or starting the pellet stove yet!

    I remember it well because my wife was attending a conference at Stowe. We spent a fortune, bundled up 3 kids for a 4 day trip, and had the worst conditions we've ever seen. I mean worst conditions for any outdoor human activity, not just skiing.

    Lake effect rain showers this morning......its coming!

    We don't radiate nearly as well as you but it was 48 here. I wore gloves for my bike ride to work for the first time in many months.

    There's a morning every year that reminds me how short summer is up here, and today was it. I had to turn the lights on when I woke up at 0530. That was the first clue. Then I rode my bike to work......long sleeve jersey for the first time in months. Cool, crisp air with patches of fog. So classically beautiful. There's still plenty of summer left but it doesn't last forever.

    We really lucked out here with a marine layer.......made it to 82F briefly after noon, then quickly back down to 79 a few hours later. 77F now, sky finally fully clearing out.

    You're in luck there. They are swarming in upstate NY. Eat you alive in the woods and fields. As bad as we have ever had.

    We got the goods here. It has been raining steadily for 3 hours now. Much needed.

    Agree. Many years ago (20 plus) I joined some friends for a weekend hike to Marcy in September. We met up Friday afternoon and hiked to a lean to in our shorts and T-shirts. We woke up to a cold rainy day. We still trudged up Marcy, saw nothing from the summit in the overcast and retreated to the lean-to. When we woke up the next morning we had frozen boots and several inches of snow on the ground.

    We saw the sun for an hour this morning, now it’s turned into another grey chilly October day. sad face.

    MXZ you have great radiating there! High of 56 here yesterday with a brisk chilly breeze. 40F when I woke up today. Excellent trick or treating weather.

    Point and click with a forecast high of 58F here today. It's beautiful.....but a little chilly for summer.

    Hi Charlie and welcome. What town do you live in? Not sure about the accurate forecast part but lots to consider like your elevation, amount of shade, breeze and your tolerance for heat and humidity. Here in central NY at elevation in the woods it has never been worth it for us to get AC. There are typically 3 or 4 nights per summer we wish we had it.
